Advanced Civilization Mission Variant
This idea was based upon the idea in Risk of having a certain mission to complete in order to win the game. Each player begins the game by drawing a mission card, no one reveals his/her mission until they are ready to declare that they have won the game. At which point, their mission is revealed and it must be proven. Another use for the missions upon completion would be to assign points to each mission, these points would be added to the player's cumulative score at the end of play. This version may require more bookkeeping as far as which civilization is taken over by another, and how long number of cities are maintained, but it adds a new element to the game. The missions to date are described here. If you create a new one, please let us know. Oh, in our group "popels" are tokens or people. For city and country names, please refer to the center map in Advanced Civilization. If a mission requires a "target" civilization, the civilization must be chosen from one of the civilizations actually in play at random.
-
You must destroy your ancient blood enemies! Death to them all! Put a popel from every other player into a bag. Draw one popel at random from the bag. This is your sworn ancestral enemy (think of Rome and Carthage, Athens and Sparta, the Greeks and the Persians). To meet your victory condition all of that player's cities and popels must be destroyed. When they have all been removed from the board you will win.
-
Your civilization is expanding rapidly, without enough land your people will not survive! You must occupy 27 territories for 3 complete turns.
-
As the leader of your civilization, you believe that single acts of strength will cause submission of others. Your task is to capture and rebuild a city on another civilization's starting space. You must maintain this city for 3 turns.
-
Nothing seems to go right for your civilization, things are always more difficult than they seem. You must build 8 cities on non-city spaces and maintain them for 2 complete turns.
-
Spread the word and convert the pagans! You must convert 30 enemy popels (turn them into your popels) using monotheism.
-
Ye shall go unto the holy land and there raise up a great temple to your God. You must build a city in either Jerusalem, Athens, Baylon, or Cairo. You must select the city space farthest from you that is actually on the map. Once you have established a city there you must build a temple. To do this you must sacrifice (i.e., turn in without receiving points for) one gold, one ivory, three timber, and one cloth. These may be given up at any time. You must then consecrate the temple by sacrificing three hides and three wine. This must be done on a single turn.
-
Loot, rape, pillage! You must sack ten enemy cities. To sack a city it must not only be reduced but all the popels that are created as a result of attacking the city must be killed. If any enemy popels survive from the city at the end of the turn you do not get credit for the sack.
-
Build a great empire which will live forever in history. You must maintain nine cities for four consecutive turns.
-
Gain master crafstmen. Gain all technological developments of a particular color, this includes the dual cards. At the beginning of the game randomly determine which one.
-
Conquest! Destroy five enemy cities. After you have destroyed the cities you must build a city of your own on the site of the old city you destroyed. Once you can maintain all five conquered cities for three turns you have achieved your victory condition.
Happy Gaming!
