Nine Player Variant for Advanced Civilization

A variant by: Jeff Pawlowski

Advanced Civilization is not played with all nine sets of playing pieces. This REQUIRES the Western Expansion Map, however.

Modifications include the following:

Barbarian Hordes: Very similar to Civil War. The player with the largest number of tokens in stock places his/her pieces in place of the barbarians. All movement is done like normal. After the Barbarians have exhausted their movement, they go to the control of the player who owns the tokens.

Piracy: Again, similar as above, but the player with the most cities in stock is the beneficiary.

This has two main changes to the game. The "down player" has more opportunities to come back from defeat. This also makes these "Barbarians" and "Pirate Cities" vulnerable to other calamities, where they were not before.

The second variant:

Unlimited Trading of Calamities: ALL Calamities have unlimited trade-ability. Civil War is Tradable, etc. This takes out the last point of luck to the game... getting a non-tradable off the deck. You can use your skills and talents to trade it off.
