The boys, ChE's, Odd-balls, and Oldies
Spring Break '99 Episode I

My boys

These are the boys that keep me sane, atleast since the Spring semester of my freshman year in college. When I need someone to talk to I know they will listen. These guys introduced me to the world of RPG's. Sure, we disagree on nearly everything at some point or another, but our differences bring a wider perspective on life. We have very frank discussions and very few secrets. We have distinct tastes and personalities and yet somehow, we mesh amazingly well.

Githzeria

(of course that's not his real name) Mechanical Engineering graduate as of May 1999. Not only is he my best friend, he is my husband.

He never says anything bad about anyone. He is my life saver. He is very easy going and is incredibly agreeable unless he decides to take a stand. He loves to learn, and remembers a ton of random facts. He is a fan of the history and learning channels, if you get him away from mudding. He loves anime (Kenshin's his favorite), Ultima online, computer games in general, and is an avid reader. His favorite board game is Axis and Allies (which he tries to get me to play from time to time), although Adv Civ, and Cosmic Encounter follow closely behind. He has even managed to suck me into his world of Playstation 2.
Chris-ChrisPhilosophy graduate as of May 1998. Graduated with a Law Degree in May 2001 and passed the bar in September 2001. He would be a perpetual student if he could. What can I say, the boy loves to learn!

Chris R. is a wonderful guy. He will do anything for a friend without thinking twice about it. Since his mother is an artist, he has an artistic flair and can paint vivid descriptions when telling stories. He is currently single, but I am confident that someone will snatch him soon! He is an excellent game master, and of course loves RPG's. He is also a fan of computer games, and classical music. His favorite non-RPG is Magic the Gathering. I'd actually call it an addiction.
Ben-head Radio, Television, Film graduate as of May 1998. He is actively awaiting the sale of his first script, and is a medical journal editor at the moment. He is also running Earthdawn for our group.

This 'Hugh Grant' lookalike has written several scripts including one about our little group. He finally tied the knot with Farah on November 10, 2001. He is an excellent game master, and is working with Chris R. to create their own RPG. He enjoys books, movies, and computer games, which all take a backseat to his love of RPG's (& Farah). He is also TV zombie, if it's on, he must watch it!
Farah Biology graduate as of May 1998. She and her sister, Deana, are working for Baylor Medicine on the Human Genome Project. She has Ben wrapped around her little finger -- as well she should, since they are married. They had a beautiful ceremony and even had a bellydancer!

Farah is smart with a wry sense of humor. She is a much needed extra female vote when the boys are hopelessly stuck on Starcraft discussions and she has amazing influence over Ben. She loves working out, cats, 80's music, books, and Adam Sandler. Farah also LOVES sports - Basketball, Football, even Baseball and Golf! Ben got her tickets to an Astros game for their anninversary and she was thrilled! She is the catcher for her work softball league. (Can you tell that I have zero interest in sports?) Farah is not a gamer, but she deserves a medal for listening to all of our gaming war stories.
Some call him Tim Economics and Mathematics graduate as of May 1998. He is currently attending U of Mich and pursuing an Economics PhD. We miss him and his vegetarian ways (except for when we are choosing a restaurant).

Tim has tried a little of everything. He pratices yoga, and martial arts. He loves the Simpsons and Star Trek. No, I don't think you truely understand -- He has them ALL memorized! He is skeptical of new wave healing techniques, aliens, and everything else you can think of. Yet he does yoga, and strongly believes in meat germs! His favorite game is Twister, because he always wins. We miss him!
Polar Bear Geography and engineering student at present time. Chris H. was Greg's roommate for a while and wielded considerable influence with his anime and ultima online habits.

Chris is also a laid-back guy. He most definitely a predictor. He reads people very well, and with very little information often makes very accurate forecasts. He is always thinking one step ahead of you!
Charles Physics graduate as of May 1997. He is programming for a computer company in Seattle. We believe it is his influence that caused Tim to turn vegetarian.

Charles' is a genius - there is no doubt about it. He is a loner (well, not since he met Tiffiny who we all love!), and wonders about things that most people don't even know exist! He plays guitar, computer games, and use to RPG. His favorite game is not known although I think he would like Advanced Civilization.

My ChE friends

These are the people that helped me survive Chemical Engineering - with homework and group projects, empathy and emotional support, and even the much needed escape from the daily grind of classes, projects, and exams. From late nights at coffee houses to dinners on Friday nights to a drink at the Posse - we always had fun. We are all spreading out with our ChE base to different cities and fields and I can only hope that we all keep in touch. These friends have shared knowledge and growth personally and academically that has shaped my life and they will always be remembered.

Amy is an amazing woman! She is very bright, incredibly organized, and seems to have mastered the art of creating extra hours in the day (I wish she would teach me!). Amy is currently attending Baylor Medical School and planning her wedding for April 5, 2003. I am one of her bridesmaids! We had a great trip to Austin to check out ceremony and reception areas! She will be a wonderful Doctor in any field she chooses.

At UT, Amy was active in nearly everything from Omega Chi Epsilon to Sexual Health Peer Advising to volunteering at every opportunity. Amy is most assuredly a party animal when she has the chance (did I mention she's a study-aholic with top-notch grades?). She loves Sixth Street, 80's music, and dancing! When she comes with me to see the Scabs all they can say is "Here Comes Trouble!"
Zoe is as unique as her name! My first glimpse of her was at Madrigal Dinner in which she was Princess Penelope. The next semester I noticed her in one of my ChE classes. I discovered that she was doubling in ChE and Plan II Honors Program and was Pre-Med. She went to Thailand in Fall 1999 for a semester abroad. This is one well-rounded gal!

Zoe was also a Sexual Health Peer Advisor and volunteer at Safe Place. She is not afraid to try anything new and took merengue classes with me. Zoe is one of those rare people that is always smiling, I can't think of a time she wasn't pleasant even though she had many places to be. Zoe also joins in games of Adv Civ with my boys from time to time. I love her creativity and individuality! Zoe introduced me to dining dim sum style and in encouraging me to take belly dancing lessons with the warning that it will make your stomach strong!
Renee (aka Ne-Ne)is an ambitious woman who has already begun her career. She will be taking a break from the corporate world to continue her schooling to become a patent lawyer in the future. She treats people with respect and will not accept anything less in return! Renee is also a certified aerobics and kickboxing instructor.

Renee is by far the conservative of our group, and we love her for it. She is dedicated and organized and loves her soaps and talk shows, but cannot live without her "Golden Girls". Renee has the ability to attract the most unusual people and situations and thus always has a story! Renee is a sweetheart and keeps track of all of her friends and their birthdays.
Don - notice that this is the only male ChE so far even though there are only 30% women - is quick to make fun, call you names, and generally get your panties in a knot. However, once you realize this is his way of showing affection, you begin hitting him right back -- just a little bit harder!

Don is a hard worker, but definitely knows how to party! He always has a crazy story about a party, or a night on sixth street, or a new friend. He drives like a madman, and his New York raising slips out from time to time. But overall, I am glad to have him around. He definitely makes class more interesting and entertaining.

Friends I have happened across along the way

Sara

Sara is a wonderful gal who graduated from Plan II in May 1999 and is living in Austin (totally not fair!). We met our freshman year through a mutual friend and then survived Organic together, a definate test of friendship. She is on a Poetry Slam and will be going to a poetry convention this summer.

Sara is a silent one, but a wild & crazy one too! She has a great smile and crazy laugh. Sara was my roommate for 2 years. We had fun spying on our neighbors, and making late night trips to Amy's Ice Cream. Sara shares my X-files addiction as well as my Dawson's Creek addiction! She is very intelligent and can follow her dreams where ever they made lead.

The Wesley

Wesley graduated in December 1998 with a Biochemistry degree and is now attending medical school in Galveston in a short 7 years, he will emerge with PhD in hand. He is a great friend who let me crash on his couch in the dorm when I had the evil roommate.

Wes is a great listener and he analyzes everyone and everything. He will gladly share his thoughts and advice on any subject. He loves computers and is one of my resources when I am lost and confused. He was the inspiration for my webcam. I keep promising a trip to Galveston, but I haven't made it yet!

Stacey

Stacey and I met spring semester of my sophomore year while we were pledging Alpha Phi Omega (APO) a service organization. We had a blast and are currently roommates. Stacey graduated from UT in Dec, 1999 in ECE, Ecology Conservation and E???

Stacey is a ton of fun! She is a great party partner and lots of fun to shop with. She amazed me by working 40 hours a week and handling a heavy course load! I have no idea how she gets it all done and still has the time to go out and have fun!

Josh-wa

I met Joshua in the most unusual way. I was building my own computer and he worked at the store that sold me all the parts. Since I made several trips to the store we got to be good friends. Then one day he braved the trip to one of my parties and we have been hanging out ever since.

Joshua is an intelligent guy who loves to learn. He is a computer expert and teaches me lots about computers, programming, Java, and HTML. Joshua is a total sweetheart who takes care of his friends. He is a regular at the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" as Eddie. Joshua and I have a great time together, he really knows how to make me laugh. Last I checked, Joshua and Megan are still dating- I am such a good match-maker (if I do say so myself)! Megan is into Rocky now, and Josh isn't so much anymore... I miss these two!

Julio-Julio

Julio interned with me the same summer as Rosemary. Julio switched from ChE to Petroleum Engineering at OU and graduated in May 2000. Julio is involved in many activities and is lots of fun.

Julio and I saw many movies over the course of a summer. We saw one almost every week. We have kept in touch ever since. Julio is very protective of his little sister and his female friends. He is very thoughtful and tries hard to make you happy. He can get carried away sometimes, but he is a lot of fun. He is also engaged to Lynn, his long time friend turned fiance! Congrats!

Friends I have known for seemingly interminable periods of my life

These friends have known me though many of the trying phases of my younger years, and yet they still stick around, I am not sure why that is.

Adie

Adrienne graduated from U of H in December 1999 with a finance degree. She is a financial analyst (same as me- for the moment) This totally amazes me! Everytime I think of Adie I picture her running, jumping, rollerblading, definitely something active! Adie and I met in Kindergarten and have stuck together ever since. This girl can remember every embarrassing moment of my life in excrutiating detail!

She will tell these stories to anyone who thinks they know me pretty well and even if they don't. We did tap and ballet, girl scouts, babysitting, cabage patch kids, barbies, micro machines, connect 4, "robots", and witches... in short we did it all! Adrienne is now an aunt and what cuties her nephews are! He has been anxiously awaited for many years! Bobby is the love of her life, they have spent summers river rafting, and at space camp as counselors and always have a good time! Their wedding is set for September 28, 2002!

Sara

Sara is an Elementary Education graduate from that other school and is teaching at a montessori school in Houston. She has 22 4 yr olds in the morning and 22 4 yrs olds in the afternoon! Sara is definately my favorite swing dance partner and we go dancing atleast once a month! Sara and I met in Junior High and have been friends ever since. "She's Sam and I'm Mike, together we are Smike!"

Sara is a wonderful person who can accomplish anything she chooses. She is very caring and appears to be conservative, however, she has done things that are definitely not conservative! For example, she spent a summer in Mexico when she did not know a lick of Spanish! I think that's pretty brave! And barely over a year after meeting him, Ashley has swept Sara off of her feet, they are planning to get married on July 13, 2002. I am one of the bridesmaids.

Brad

My cousin, Bradley teaches Journalism and Newspaper at a new Klein HS. He graduated from SHSU with a ton of accolades to numerous to list here (read: I forget). He loves teaching and listening to the daily troubles of teens in turmoil. I love to listen to his stories.

Bradley and I have always stuck together. Even when we were 3 at a wedding -- we hid beneath the present table and everyone went into a panic searching for us -- oops! We were reunited by yet another wedding Jr. High, in which we had to pose by the presents for a photo op! We have been writing ever since! We actually live close together now so this is amazing!

Paul

Paul, hmm, where to begin. Just accept the fact that we know each other, its much easier that way. Paul started as ChE at UT, and finished as CS at UH. He is working hard, surfing the net all day and collecting giant paychecks! He claims he is a fellow moonfish, but I have seen no evidence in support of this...

This boy gets to travel to my favorite city during the week, expenses paid and I have to listen to him complain about it! Life is sooo unfair! Although the boy can cook, and he even cooks for me so I had better keep my mouth shut! Paul also rocks because he is always up for dancing and I don't know too many guys that are! He is also great to talk with online. Did I mention he is a walking disaster? Injuries always befall him! He is a catcher for a baseball league after many hours of try outs. He also likes triathalons - how I have so many friends into sports is totally beyond me. He is also a Bjork freak. Paul married one of my friends from High School, Dina, on December 15, 2001. I wish them the best.

Jenni

Jen is a bright girl that graduated from that other school in Texas with a Biology/PreMed Degree in May 1998. She deferred medical school for a year to try her hand at singing country in Nashville, Tennesee and has stayed there ever since! Jennifer and I have known each other since we were infants!

Jen and I have been penpals since we were five! That is a ton of letters! I still have all of them too! We have met up several times since we split, in Houston, Dallas, and College Station. It's sooooo amazingly cool to have a friend for your entire lifetime!

Antho

Anthony graduated from UT with a biology degree in May 2000. While he once aspired to attend medical school, he has since decided to pursue his singing/acting career! I wish him the best of luck wherever he goes which is currently overseas! Antho and I met our senior year of high school, he transfered to my school and we hit it off. He is a total sweetheart, and incredibly smart, and funny.

He has changed considerably since our days at KHS. He is no longer the studious boy, he now lives for rock climbing! He was the one that introduced me to Magic and rock climbing, and helped me survive my first semester at UT. He is a wonderful guy that I will not forget!

Steph

Stephanie is a graduate of Rice University in music and anthropology. She is currently pursuing epidemiology (sp?) at Georgetown in Washington, DC. She is a marvelously talented pianist, who still has yet to teach me! She is incredibly fun to be with and she is intelligent too! Steph and I met on the bus our freshman year of high school, and then we realized we were in the same classes, and the band directors recruited her for our percusion section.

Steph's b-day is 2 days before mine and we were so much alike that we confused our parents, friends, and boyfriends on the phone such that we thought we were twins! One birthday, we gave each other the same CD, it was pretty funny! We had so many secret codes, we were always laughing about something!

Thanks for taking a moment to check out my friends, they mean a lot to me, and I am not sure how I would survive without them or who I would be for that matter.
