Just a few of the games I love

This page is currently under construction, please excuse the mess.

When I am not studying, working out, or changing around this web site, I enjoy playing a variety of games wuth my friends.  After exhausting all traditional card & board games, we began looking for new titles to try out.  Here are some of my favorites from card games, to board games, to online games, to role playing games.  I hope my enthusiasm for the games will make you consider trying them out.

Advanced Civilization

Advanced CivilizationThis is a strategy board game produced by Avalon Hill.  It plays alright with 4 players but is increasingly better with 8 (or 9 with variants).  A good game with lots of players can take up to 10 hours (or more), that's why our group likes to play for 3-4 hours and then "save" the game to complete at a later time.  This game keeps all players involved at all times and makes use of strategy and compromise skills of all players, however some luck is involved, but with careful planning it will not devestate your civilization.

Cosmic Encounter

Cosmic EncounterThis is a luck/ strategy board game that is currently not being produced.   However, there are several resources on the web that would allow you to to piece together your own copy. There are also multiple online versions.  This game is great for 2 players but even better withup to 6! Each player has a 5 home planets and an alien power.  The object of the game is to make 5 bases outside of your base system by attacking the other players.  Allies change with every round of play and everyone is always involved. This game has a lot of elements of luck and doesn't require too much strategy. This game requires about 2-3 hours to play.

Hero Quest

Hero QuestThis is a semi-role playing board game that was produced by Milton Bradley. The game is designed for 4 players a Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, and a Wizard.  Although, my group has also created 2 alternate characters and added extra monsters to the quest.  These 4 Heros battle the evil forces of Zargon (gamemaster) who has mummies, skeletons, orcs, goblins, and many others on his side.  Each quest has a different objective with chances to earn treasure and artifacts along the way. Quests can last from 30 min to 2 hours depending on choices made my the players.

Warhammer Quest

This game is very similar to Hero Quest it is also a board game, but the board itself changes each adventure rather than just changing the walls and furniture in Hero Quest..  But it has several improvements as well, for instance you will not need to write your own adventures when the books adventureshave been completed. There are several set adventures where a gamemaster is required but there are also rules that allow for play without a gamemaster. As with Hero Quest there the same 4 characters and similar monsters but there are new foes as well. This game was designed for 4 players, but we have successfully played with 6. It can last any where from 1-3 hours for a quest.

Links will be added as soon as I search for them.

Talisman

This is also a  miniature board game that has set characters and multiple paths. This game has many expansions and extra boards.  The objective is simple: Gather magical items, and money as you head toward the center of the board, when you get there one of several endings will greet you, a fierce monster to fight, instant death, or an instant win.   This game is mostly dependent on luck. The most interesting feature of this game is that players can attack and steal from other players.   This game can take 30 min if you are lucky, and 5 hours if you are not. This is not one of my favorites to play, probably because of the luck factor, however I have won 3 of the 4 times I've played, so decide for yourself.
