So you think you know the Ugly Americans? Well unless
you've seen them in the last three months, you don't know dick! The band that had a top twenty
radio hit with "Vulcan Death Grip of Love" from their Capricorn Records debut "Stereophonic
Spanish Fly" has completely reinvented itself. With the addition of not one, but five new
members, and with Bruce Hughes (bassist for Cracker and Poi Dog Pondering) going back to bass,
the band has become a force to be reckoned with. They are without a doubt one of the best live
bands on the road today.
This band has it all: the talent, the skills, the show, the songs, the
presentation and the desire to kick as much ass as is humanly possible and then some. The band
that has always been known for its outsanding live performances has kicked it up to a new level
. But fuck the bullshit! What this band has that no other original rock-n-roll band has is the
GROOVE BABY! There are other bands out their that groove as hard (some of the more established
bands like the Meters and the Maceo Parker band) but no one has such strong new material to do
it with.
Lead singer, Bob Schneider, has honed his considerable talents as a frontman
into a nonstop tour de force of energy and excitement. David "Snizz" Robinson sets a new
standard as one of the premier funkmeisters of all time on the drums. David Boyle lays down
an unquestionably cool bed of vintage keyboard sound that would make any phonophile grab
themselves by the pussy and shout "Goddamnit!". The addition of the one two punch of Adam
Temple and Charles Reiser on guitars gives this band enough six-string juice to quench any
headbanging rockweenie's thirst. To top off this motherfucker of a hot fudge cockfest, they've
added the grooveline horns: three tightlipped badboys from the valley who will literally blow
you away; Carlos Sosa on saxophone, Fernie "Maddog" Castillo on trumpet and Rolo on longhorn.
With the release of their second album "Boom Boom Baby", Ugly Americans shed
their nice boy image in a big way with the nice & nasty title track. They once again display
their amazing ability to take an extremely eclectic range of musical styles and give it their
own distinctive aroma. From the punk energy of "Fastest Man Alive" to the soulful irreverance
of "One & A Rainbow", Ugly Americans take the listener on a joyride through a musical
landscape where life is fast, love is cheap and everybody's whites are whiter and colors are
brighter. So fuck what you know and fuck what you've heard because until you've heard this band
you're in the land of the parties over and my girlfriends fucking my best friend. Viva la
Fiesta, Baby!
