WOW! Fantastic back-to-back weekends of Scabs and Bob Schneider shows complete with a visit with Bob, and the band. Nice guy.
My favorite band and my favorite movie director - Kevin Smith- teamed up to deliver Bullets on the Jay and Silent Bob Soundtrack! On another movie related encounter - 'Big Blue Sea' is suppose to be in "40 Days & 40 Nights".
Yes, it's true the indie band has finally signed with a major label and is in all the big stores. Bob Schneider is how you will find the band touring at the moment, out of texas even! I wish the boys the best of luck, but I am longing for delicious dose of the Scabs! I really miss catching the shows at Antone's with ease now that I have moved to Houston. I dragged out of bed pretty early after those fabulous Tuesday night shows! I
have been to 14 shows during my 4 years of band addiction, but I am sure there will be many more. I have taken
19 people to see the band play, and all of them have fallen in love with the band (okay, okay, so one of them wrote a really long rant after I made him stay out too late, but...)! I
have suffered a broken toe, cigarette burns, lots of bruises, and a sunburn, but I have
also been pulled up on stage three times! There is non-stop dancing, singing, and laughing and
is definately a good time. I have also been extremely close to a bar brawl. I met
the band while eating dinner just before a show at the Satellite Lounge in Houston. It was certainly a night to remember~ "Here comes Trouble!"
My Personal CD Collection:
(in reverse time order, so that means if you want to understand the commentary, work your way up from the bottom. Hey, I never said this site would be user-friendly!)
"Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" soundtrack - duh, who could pass up this combo - funny guys, good tunes, and star wars references!
I picked up "Underneath the Onion Tree" at the Bob Schneider show in Houston at Aerial Theatre.
I have also added the "Gunshy" soundtrack to my collection (with a Scabs song, and 2 Lonelyland songs). I am considering the "Gunshy" DVD just because of the band. "What can I say? The band does weird things to me." (my second addiction is Kevin Smith)
I bought my first Bob Schneider CD at a mainstream store (Best Buy) released on March 13, 2001 - so it's remake of the original "Loneyland" CD, but I *needed* the 3 Texas bonus tracks!
I have also recently acquired the Bob
Schneider "Songs Sung and Played on the Guitar" CD, almost the only CD I can safely listen to at work. The original "Lonelyland" CD is the other "safe" choice, when I've just gotta have my fix!
"Bombtracks" by the Scabs was released in December 2000, but be warned it's only for die
hard fans (several old songs, and the 3 new ones are on "Destroyer").
"Destroyer" was released in July, 2000 (great sound and the HEB song!).
Well, it had been about 6 mo's since my last fix and I just moved to Houston, so I picked up the Ugly Americans self-titled CD on "Fat Angel Records", has the good/bad "angels" on the cover.
Be sure to pick up the the Scabs "more than a feelin' " CD released in March, 1999 (I didn't like it as much as "Freebird" at first, but now it's one of my fav's). This CD has a great mix of sounds and moods, I love it!
Then for the moment, I caved to my craving and completed my collection with the self-titled CD on the What Are Records? (WAR?) label.
I also picked up Stereophonic Spanish
Fly, the Ugly Americans first CD on Capricorn Records. Great for background party music!
The Ugly Americans CD, Boom Boom Baby was released on Tuesday, May 12, 1998, but it is still one of
my favorites.
Encore (183 and Burnet) stayed open late to sell the CD at midnight to anxious fans.
Of course, I was there and first in line
(literally)!
I love The Scabs CD FREEBIRD that was released in April, 1998 and so do my friends that I "forced" to listen to it.
I have never gotten into the whole music scene and
psychotic band addiction, but this is the band that has done it!
