First ASL/Braille Permanent
Public Sculpture in Minnesota!
On September 4, 1999 Helene was commissioned to help create the first ASL/Braille sculpture for the city of St. Paul, the capital of Minnesota. Many Deaf, Blind and hearing children and adults converged at the Western Sculpture Park to sculpt these ASL/Braille clay tiles which were then cast in iron. The charms were on exhibit at the Mayor's Forum public reception in October. In Spring 2000 some of the tiles will be installed as charms bracelets for the trees in the sculpture park. Each bracelet features a specific word:
inspiration, beauty, life, roots, journey, belong, strength, protect, play, home

The entrance to the park begins with Inspiration, which is also the tiltle of Helene's first ASL sculpture, created in 1994!
