Education and Certification Rubin Battino received his master’s degree in mental health counseling in 1978 from Wright State University. He is licensed (LPCC) in the State of Ohio and is a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC). Teaching Battino is an adjunct professor of counseling in the Department of Human Services at Wright State University. He has taught courses at Wright State on neurolinguistic programing (NLP), solution-oriented therapies, guided imagery, and Ericksonian hypnosis and psychotherapy. He and his colleague, T.L. South, Ph.D., do year-long training in Ericksonian methods. Hypnotherapy Battino is the editor and co-author with T.L. South (and three other contributors) of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy: A Comprehensive Manual (Crownhouse Publishing, Ltd., 1999). Battino has been an officer of the Milton H. Erickson Society of Dayton for many years and has given many presentations to the members on a variety of subjects. Battino has presented and been on the faculty of the international Erickson congresses. He has been doing week-end workshops for the London College of Clinical Hypnosis. Book Overview Other books by Rubin Battino include Guided Imagery and Other Approaches to Healing (2000); Coping: A Practical Guide for People with Life-Challenging Diseases and their Caregivers (2001); Meaning: The Life of Viktor E. Frankl (a biography in play form) (2002); and Metaphoria: Metaphor and Guided Metaphor for Psychotherapy and Healing (2002). Counseling Experience For over ten years Rubin Battino has served as a facilitator for Bernie Siegel-style support groups for people with life-challenging diseases and those who support them. He has been doing individual work on a volunteer basis with people who have serious diseases and has been developing methods for healing via hypnosis, guided imagery, and psychotherapy. Battino now maintains a small private practice specializing in very brief therapy and continues to do teaching and training.
Rubin Battino offers experientially oriented training ranging from one- to two-hour introductions to the material to a ten-week, 30-hour workshop in the following areas:
Syllabi are available for these workshops. Fees are negotiable, but generally include full expenses for Battino and his wife.
Dr. Battino has written 15 plays and is working on a book of three-line poems. He is available for staged readings, or for reading selections of his works. One of his plays, Die, Already!, was produced in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1988.
