Born Teena Brandon, she sets out for Falls City to create a new identity, and sex, by taking on the name Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank) and effectively portraying herself male. Eventually, Brandon starts to date and finds love with Lana (Chloë Sevigny), a girl who does not realize who Brandon Teena really is. Finding acceptance among Lana's friends, Brandon experiences a short time of peace that is shattered when her physical identity is revealed. Suddenly, the friendships unravel into fear, and Brandon becomes the unfortunate target for their violence. |
