BEGINNING OF THE MAGE GUILD
Paeoin floats in the air, eye level to Maya.
Maya sighs, "You think she will listen to us?"
Paeoin says, "For once I am unsure. "
Paeoin says, "I believe it is a reasonable request to make, goddess knows that she may want mages trained in her name."
Maya starts pacing the hall, "I just think we need to take an active part."
Maya continues, "I mean, its not fair to leave everything up to her."
Paeoin says, "And this old place would suit nicely. Indeed so."
Sabbath enters the meeting hall in her quiet fashion, and stands there at the doorway, watching for the moment until she finds a break in the ongoing conversation.
Maya nods.
Paeoin says, "How interesting. We were just discussing you."
Paeoin says, "My greetings Lady Sabbath."
Paeoin says, "My mate and I have a request of you."
Paeoin walks over to Maya's sholder and faces Sabbath.
Maya turns with a start, fumbling with her book. "Hello Lady Sabbath." She bows.
Mew purrs Hello My little Kitten. He looks at you with a smile in his eye.
Maya swallows, trying to find the rigth words.
Sabbath raises a brow as she enters and takes a seat, uninvited naturally, "You were discussing me? Why ever for?" then smirks and nods, "Greetings to you both. What is it that you need?"
Paeoin corrects mew for his disrespect towards Sabbath.
Mew appologizes.
Sabbath mmhmmms and nods slowly, "A Mage Guild, here in Cat's Haven. What do the others at the High Council think about this? Last I knew, none of them were too happy with me."
Paeoin says, "I do not think this is a matter of favorites, but rather a matter of necessity."
Maya continues to pace, "Well," she blushes a little, "We havent asked them yet. We were hoping to run this by you first."
Paeoin nods in accord.
Sabbath ah hahs softly and nods, "I see. Making sure its ok with me, then slap them with the idea. But why do you think a Mage guild is needed here of all place, Paeoin?" Its odd how the old cat can pick up names without asking.
Maya takes a breath, "For a while, I've been held up in my Spire, on the out skirts of town. I, we, noticed the earthquakes and heard rumors of strange stuff happening."
Paeoin says, "The point is, Lady Sabbath, that with the recent trouble, skilled mages will be needed in the days to come. Not to mention there are many others out there with power. If harnessed, and properly trained, it may serve as a line of defense."
Maya gasps, "I mean its not fair for Bast to have to take the brunt of this and worry about all her followers too."
Paeoin says, "Mages trained in her name could become her greatest avatars."
Maya looks at Pae then back to Lady Sabbath, "If we, can help ourselves; then it turn we can help her."
Sabbath hmmmms softly and nods a bit, "What all have you heard about the things going on here? I do hope you both realize, the earthquakes and odd weather stopped some months ago."
Maya nods, "Thats when i decided to leave my home."
Paeoin says, "There is nothing to say it will not return."
Paeoin says, "Added to this, is not the weather the voice of the gods?"
Paeoin says, "If the weather has grown still, What else has come because of it. If the gods use the weather to remind us of thier presence, what may have happened?"
Sabbath ehhhhs, "Not really, my lad. The weather is in itself a work of the world to keep herself in balance. Bast, nor any other god that I know of, controls it."
Paeoin considers this.
You purr, "For several months now, the weather has been as normal as can be."
Paeoin says, "And so it should. Have you not yourself felt the calm before the storm?"
Paeoin says, "We would not ask to open the mages guild without reason. There are mumurings. Something is on the horizion. A time will come when we are left to our own devices, a twilight of the gods. "
Maya sits down, "A while ago, I ran into a fur I met in town. She asked for my help." she shiveres. "She led me to a small home in the woods. Inside.."
Paeoin says, "Who then shall we turn to. "
Maya conintues, "were two furs locked in what appeared to be some form of force bubbles. She asked me to try and free them."
Sabbath flicks her gaze to Maya a moment then levels her gaze on Paeoin and smirks, "Child, that, is a severe understatement. I've been monitoring the life pulse of the world since I came back and she's been waiting for something big, which I believe is just weeks away now. But we have a bigger problem than that right now. Have either of you heard about the 14 murdered bodies found at the edge of the castle lands?"
Sabbath nods to Maya, "I've already heard about them, and they are free. have been for some time."
Paeoin says, "I had a feeling of something. Souls crying out, woke from my sleep. I did not know where or who, but it makes sense."
Maya sighs, feeling better.
Maya mumbles, "WhenI couldn't help them I feld into in home. After a while the earthquakes started."
Maya looks up, "I did hear some talk about some furs missing..."
Paeoin says, "If then, Lady Sabbath, this thing is to be upon us, when has there ever been a better time to teach people to fend for themselves. People dying, the very force that binds all slipping. Better to have they that can still nurture it while it lives."
Paeoin says, "Than to loose all touch in it as we slip into darkness."
Sabbath mmhmms and nods, "Many, who are sensitive to the aether have felt this... thing, this.. darkness. I discovered the bodies myself, along with a High Priest of Amen-Ra's, when we went in search of some missing guards. 13 of the bodies were sucked dry of everything, their soul, their innards, just their hide and bones left. One body, belonging to a woodcutter was left hanging in a tree. From the claw marks left on him, he was brutally murdered by a feline of some kind. Possibly working with this dark thing."
Paeoin says, "I have felt this thing, it is there in the shadows. Neither life nor death, but captured in the twilight of between. Maya has felt it too." Maya faces goes pale, "Maybe if there were others around, better prepared. Some of those lives could have been saved."
Paeoin says, "Again I ask you, if this thing is not of the same life we breath, how else but with the goddesses blessing may we vanquish it. How else but with the life force we must defend do we counter it?"
Maya looks at Pae, "Pae's is too kind. He is the one with the accute senses. I have always been more comfortable with the elements."
Paeoin chuckles.
Maya looks pleading, "Its not right for us just to sit back and leave it in the hand of the gods or anyother higher beings."
Paeoin says, "My dear, you have sensed it. But there exists a difference between sensing something and knowing it for what it is. What do you think it is that has driven you from the spire in this time, and driven us to reopen the ancient ways?"
Sabbath hrmmmms softly as she considers, "This thing, Paeoin, is very strong. It can escape even my own senses. Right now, its our main focus, the Counsil of Gods has even stated as such." She leans back in her chair and hmms softly, listening further then nods, "I could use the extra help. If you two think you can train mages strong and cunning enough to help us find this thing, then go for it, but it your own lives you put into danger."
Paeoin says, "Lady Sabbath, we are asking your permission as a matter of form, but like attracts like, and even with no guild people have come to us asking for guidence."
Paeoin says, "Two already have approached me for the teaching. They feel it too. And there are others."
Maya states, "Its better than just sitting back and letting fate take over."
Sabbath nods, "I blame myself for that. I should be focusing my attention here mostly, IN Cat's Haven, but I am this world's guardian. I have to keep the whole population in mind when I make a single decision."
Paeoin says, "Then do you have any objections?"
Maya nods, "Which is why we are offering to help."
Maya continues, 'As you said, you have a whole world to look after. Let us, the furs of Cat's Haven help. Its the least we can do."
Paeoin says, "The line of my family has brought me to this place, and there are things in this world Which are beyond your philosophy."
You purr, "I have no obejction, but remember, if any novice or apprentice get the attention of the Counsil of Gods because they are too ambitious, then I have to put a stop to them."
Maya nods.
Paeoin concedes.
Maya suggests, "Thats why we wer're considering a possible school set up. Hopfully this will better to monitor those who come wishing to learn."
Sabbath nods, "Good. I'll be keeping an eye on the training you two do, so expect me to show up at a moments notice. If I don't show up, my assistant will."
Maya queries, "Assistant?"
Maya looks at Paeoin, a slight frown on her face, "Pae, I think we should work on a foundation using this realm's magic first. Otherwise I fear we will run into to many situations where Lady Sabbath will be forced to intervene."
Sabbath nods and chuckles, "Yes, I have an assitant. I just finished his training so expect him to pop in at any given time when I can't."
Maya smiles, "Actaully i was asking his name?"
Paeoin says, "My Lady Sabbath, there are those who exist in other places who can teach wonderous things if we can give them residence. They will wish to join me in time."
Paeoin considers this and agrees quietly.
Sabbath smiles, "His name is Magus, He has the same authority I do when it comes to protecting this world." then nods her agreement with Maya, "Focus on this world's magic first, at least until we have everything calm once again."
Paeoin says, "Still this place has untapped potential, and we may need all of it we can get."
Maya scritches Pae under the chin, "Its just my dear, I know that your friends are quite powerful. Maybe, to those who pass the tests and prove to be untained by a lust for power. To those, in time, you can open the door to new posibilities.
Paeoin nods.
Maya nods to Sabbath, mentally noting her assistant's name.
Paeoin says, "High magic cannot be taken lightly."
Sabbath chuckles softly, "Maya, you are a wise young woman."
Maya nods, "Exactly."
Maya blushes at Sabbath's words.
Paeoin smiles with pride for her.
Maya takes a deep breath and looks at Lady Sabbath, "So m'lady, do we have your blessing? If you want, in a few days we can provide you with our ideas to see if you aprove of them. Then you can make a decision."
Paeoin perches once again on Maya's sholder, looking at Sabbath.
Sabbath turns her gaze to Paeoin and hmmms, "Young man, you are very eager, but I think a bit too eager. It could prove disaterous in the future."
Paeoin nods quietly.
You purr, "I'll allow the guild to be built under one condition."
Maya listens.
Paeoin nods.
Sabbath smiles mischievously, another of her many trademarks, "The guild can be built, if, and only if, you, Paeoin, study under Maya for a while. You can learn a lot from her patience. If you can master that, then I do believe, there will be two good teachers for this guild and a lot less worry for myself and Magus."
Paeoin smiles inwardly at the irony.
Maya blushes and smiles at her sleeping mate
Paeoin says, "You are right Sabbath."
The old cat stands and straightens her vest a little before looking over the both of you discreetly then says, "As soon as you have your ideas on paper, bring them to my son, Lord Silverclaw, he'll look them over and help you start the building."
Maya nods to Sabbath, "I promise you I will help keep is curiosity in tow."
Maya nods, "Thank you m'lady."
Maya stands, gathering her book.
Maya bows, "Thank you, again."
Paeoin remains on Maya's Sholder.
Paeoin bows his head.
Sabbath chuckles softly, "Remember, curiosity is a mage's best friend. It helps you to learn new and better things, but never let it get the best of you. Keep that in mind with each student you teach."
Maya nods, "We will."
Paeoin says, "It is curiosity that sparks the flame of magic."
Sabbath nods, "Exactly. Now, if you two will excuse me, there is a lot to do before the sun sets."
Paeoin says, "And it is only through curiosity that the highest magics are attained. (bows respectfuly)"
Maya smirks, "But your curiosity Pae, has been known to inight old dormant volcanoes.
Paeoin says, "Good day to thee Lady Sabbath."
Maya nods and bows, "good evening."
Sabbath nods then bows before turning and walking out, taking a personal portal to some unknown destination.
