1993. Of the 4 LSD's in the bracket, the Donner is the
one third from the right facing away from the camera.
Also in Photo are Fort Snelling, Spiegel Grove and Plymouth Rock.

Recent
letter regarding making Donner into a museum. Time is short for
this effort as the remaining World War 2 era ships in the reserve
fleet are at the top of the scrapping list.

Ships in the James River Reserve Fleet in early 2002. Donner is
the fourth one from the bottom (the really rusty one in the middle).
The 2 LST's towards the bottom of the picture (Lorrain County on the
bottom and Wood County 2nd from the bottom) were scrapped in late 2002.
The tanker between the Wood County and the Donner is the Saugatuck, the
only World War T2 tanker in near original configuration. The ship
on the other side of the Donner is the Rigel. She will be scrapped
in England with the Donner. |
