Decisions Decisions—Always Decisions

The first decision ever made, that we have any knowledge of, was made by "Our Father which art in Heaven." In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth,(Genesis 1:1). He decided to create all that we are aware of, and much more we are not aware of. It was also His decision that all creation be brought into existence by His Only Begotten Son, our Lord and Savior. He not only created all things, but it is He that sustains all things, keeping everything in perfect balance. "For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist," Colossians 1:16-17.

We don’t think for one minute that global warming has escaped His notice, (it could even be His doing) or that He is not aware of the latest hurricanes, and other disasters of nature. Not only does He know what’s going on within His creation, but He is in command to the point that He either allows, disallows, or completely controls everything. So what should we do about the conditions we see around us today? Now we have a choice, a decision to make—To begin with, we should decide not to worry, (Philippians 4:6). Worry will only cause aggravation and frustration, Make a decision to pray about such things and "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7).

God endowed His creatures with the ability and the freedom to make decisions. Even animals decide what to do when thirsty, when hungry, when in danger. Adam was very busy making lots of decisions for "God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof," (Genesis 2:19). God Himself also made lots of decisions. "He decided the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names," (Psalm 147:4). With the number of stars, naming them was probably far too big a task to assign to man.

We can be sure that God knew that it wouldn’t be long before a choice would be made leading to a disastrous decision, and sure enough it happened. The consequences are still being felt to this day. "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" Romans 5:12.

God. in creating man (us, male and female) has given us "freedom of choice." Freedom to choose right or wrong, good or bad, virtue or evil. He gave us the right to choose, and He knew full well even from before the beginning that bad choices, leading to wrong decisions, would be made, but He still gave us freedom of choice. What He did not give us was the choice of the consequences resulting from our choices and decisions. He did, however, make available a means to be wise in our choices and decisions, but we must realize that our decision might be wrong and we would have to accept the consequences. We should be fearful of the results of an unrighteous or evil decision. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding," Proverbs 9:10.

In a matter of a few weeks from now we, here in the United States, will all be in the position of making a formidable choice, the decision of which may affect the lives of millions including ourselves. This is a decision each of us has to make on our own, The only recommendation from Solomon’s Porch would be to make this a time for seriously considering the consequences of the choice we are asked to make. This is not a trivial matter. This is a time for serious prayer, even fasting. It is a time to weigh carefully what might be the results of our decision, and trust God to provide the best for all.

Try this for good decisions
