Personality

Aside from physical appearance our personality is what makes each of us different. Personality is the totality of qualities and traits, as of character or behavior, that are peculiar to a specific person. We need not to look far to see the differences in personality of those we encounter. Some have pleasant personalities while others are just the opposite. It seems perfectly natural to want to be associated with those we find having a likeable personality. Thinking in the natural, man would not want to be associated with a god whose traits are objectionable. Yet sorry to say, throughout history, people even nations have, and still do, worship images made of stone and wood, and we can add to that the horoscope, rabbits foot, and a myriad of good luck charms and superstitions.

Personality certainly plays a significant role in the selection of whom it might be that we decide is desirable. Is the personality of God such that makes Him desirable? We willingly accept the fact that we are His creation, and that He loves us. Should we therefore even be concerned about His personality traits? What does His Word have to say about Him in this regard?

Psalms 18:30-32 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the Lord ? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord . For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Matthew 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Psalms 138:6-7 Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

Jeremiah 10:12 He hath made the earth by His power, he hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion.

Psalms 11:4-5 The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord 's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence His soul hateth.

Psalms 11:7 For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

Jeremiah 17:10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

2 Chronicles 19:7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

Psalms 103:13-14 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Solomon’s Porch Scripture for the Day

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord

choose you this day whom ye will serve;

whether the gods which your fathers served

that were on the other side of the flood,

or the gods of the Amorites,

in whose land ye dwell:

but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15
