Why did He Come?
Before we ask the question, why did He come, another important question is why did He come the way that He did? The Israelites had been for decades longing for the Messiah to come as promised by the prophets. But they were looking for Him to come and deliver them from the hands of their enemies. The beauty part of it is that for thirty three years after He arrived they did not even know He was here. It seems obvious that Mary knew who He was, and so did Elizabeth, for when Mary visited Elizabeth before the babe was born, "she, Elizabeth, spoke out with a loud voice and said,"Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" (Luke 1:41-43) Both these ladies knew what was happening, why didn't they let everyone else in on the good news? The answer seems pretty simple, Shouting and publishing it all over town would be woman’s way especially if it were today. But God did not plan it that way and He picked the right time and the right women for the task. He knew their hearts and that they would behave in a manner pleasing to Him. Also if Mary had told everyone that she was pregnant without knowing a man, and that the child was the Son of God, they would have declared her out of her mind and put her away in some lock down institution. But God had planned this before the foundation of the world, and nothing, absolutely nothing, could ever prevent it from coming to pass. Jesus speaking to The Father said,"...for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world."(John 17:24) |
