Found in 1920 Census living in Washington Twp., Erie Co., PA with brother
Samuel E. age 74, his wife Ellen 66, and Melissa Reynolds age 68 shows
her being born in NY.
Mary Melissa St. John was born August 28, 1851 to B. G. and Anna L. St.
John. Her obit states she was born at the St John homestead in Erie Co.,
PA. (census show her being born in NY) She spent her early life in this
section, attending Edinboro State Normal School and later taught for many
years in the schools of the area and eastern OH. She later attended
Willoughby College in OH. She married George Clinton Reynolds of
Skeltontown, Venango Twp., PA in Meadville, PA in 1886. In 1888 Clinton
returned with his bride to Norton Co. KS... where he had homesteaded in
1880. They were found in Norton Co., KS in the 1900 census and lived
there for twelve years. Later, they returned to live on the Charlie Du
Wall farm in Skeltontown, PA until Clinton's death in 1915. She then
lived with her brother S. E. St John. After S. E.'s death she lived with
nieces and nephews in the area. She had many, as she had one sister and
four brothers and the siblings preceeded her in death. She was living
with a niece, Mrs. Norman M. Kline (Lillian) Washington Twp., Erie Co.,
PA at the time of her death on April 9, 1935. She departed this life at
age 83 years, five months and 11 days. Services were held in the church
at McLallen's Corners on April 11, 1935 with Rev Peters of that church
officiating. George and Melissa are buried in the McLallen's Corners
Cemetery.
