Burial:
Place: Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, Phillips Co., KS
Individual note:
Found in 1930 Census, Phillips Co., KS Logan Twp Dist. 16
Richard Julius Jaenicke, son of Amelia and Richard Julius Jaenicke, was
born in Prairie View, Phillips County, KS February 20, 1879. (note in
1880 Wolf Creek Beaver Twp was considered part of Prairie View) When but
a young man, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in which he was
raised.
On June 18, 1902, he was married to Anna Shearer. For nearly fifty-seven
years they have worked together to provide a happy home for their
children and for those things which added to the betterment and
prosperity of their neighbors. Durning his lifetime Mr. Jaenicke saw
many changes take place in the methods of agricultural production and he
was ever enthusiastic and quick to adopt the new machinery which made for
greater productivity.
Their home was enriched by the birth of their six children although
sorrow, too, visited the family when their ten-year old son, Earl, died
on March 22, 1914.
In 1941 he and his wife moved from the home north of town to the present
residence in Logan, but never did he relinquish his interest in the land,
it's challenges and problems.
One of the happiest occasions of Mr. Jaenicke's life was the June day in
1952 when he and his wife were granted the privilege of celebrating their
50th Anniversary of their marriage at an open house; planned and carried
out by their children. His greatest delight was in the presence of his
children and their children.
In recent years he had been in gradually failing health but refused to
give up his usual daily activity until Feb. 12 when he entered the
hospital in Hill City, KS. Here, in the early morning of Feb. 15, 1959,
only five days before his 80th birthday, death came to this man who had
lived his entire life in Logan, where he was successful and highly
respected member of the community.
He will be greatly missed by many friends and relatives: his wife, Anna,
the children, Mrs. Lucille Becker, Mr. Francis Jaenicke, Mrs. Lois
Krouse, Mrs. Irene Lafferty all of Logan, and Mr. Lee Jaenicke of
Hutchinson. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren,
his sister, Mrs. Mollie Schick of Logan, and his brother, Emil Jaenicke
of Alma, NE. He was pre-deceased by his father, mother, a brother,
Robert, two sisters, Mrs Mary Veh and Mrs. Emma Fischli.
Service were held at the Christian Church in Logan, Feb 18, at 2:00.
Casket bearers were, Jerome, Clifford, Paul, and Ronald Becker, Dick
Lafferty and Vernon Jaenicke. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery,
Logan, KS
