Emigration: from Holstein, Germany in 1639 aboard 'Fire of Troy'.
According to the Register of the Provincial Secretary 1639 Vol 1:
21 July 1639. Le~. Jonas Bronk to Peter Andriessen and Lourens Duyts,
passengers in the ship Fire of Troy, of a plantation on the mainland,
opposite the flatland of Manhate [sic] to raise tobacco and maize
[full details p.141 vol.1].

There is also
quite a scandal involving Laurens as recorded in 1658 in the Council
Minutes Vol. VIII, Dutch Manuscripts: 18 Nov. Order for the
examination of Geesje Jansen, accused of having had illicit
intercourse with Laurens Duyts [full details p.1038 vol. VIII] 25
Nov. Sentence of whipping and banishment pronounced against Ytie
Jansen for living in adultery with Jan Parcel, alias Botcher [full
details p.1049 vol. VIII] 25 Nov. Sentence. Laurens Duyts of
Holstein, for selling his wife, Ytie Jansen and forcing her to live
in adultery with another man, and for living himself also in
adultery, to have a rope fled around his neck then to be severely
flogged, to have his right ear cut off and to be banished for 50

Mary Katherine Keaffaber, 88, 346 Birchwood Court, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor West.

She was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Servia, to Henry and Velva (Chronister) Frantz. She married Claude Keaffaber in North Manchester Sept. 11, 1932. He preceded her in death May 23, 1987.

Mrs. Keaffaber was a 1932 graduate of Chester Township High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Bachelor Creek Church of Christ. She was a charter member of the Progressive Home Economics Club in Wabash County.

Surviving are a daughter, Lois Ann Murphy, Wabash; three grandchildren, Mrs. Richard (Renee) Day, Denver, Brett Murphy, Pendleton, and Greg (Tina) Murphy, Wabash; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. One grandson and two sisters are deceased.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, with John Leinbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery.

Josephine M. Clason, daughter of Charles and Polly Clason was born March 9, 1847 at Marengo, McHenry Co., IL and passed awaay at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Minnie Sebelius of Almena, KS on March 3, 1944 just short of her 97th birthday.
She spent her early years in Illinois. On October 11, 1863 she was married to George D. Peak in Marengo, IL. After a few years they went to NE in a covered wagon and in 1879 they moved to Logan, KS which was ther home for many years. Later they moved to Almena, KS.
Her husband preceeded her in death on May 3, 1936. Surviving Mrs. Peak are her three daughters and two sons. The children are Lewis D. Peak of Densmore, Mrs Ella Jaenicke of Alma, NE, Mrs Lillian R. Rhoades and Mrs. Minnie Sebelius of Almena and Ernest Peak of Hollandale, MN. Two daughters, Mrs. Viola Sebelius and Miss Grace Peak died in 1921 while another child, Rosalie died in infancy. Funeral services were held at the Almena Methodist Church March 7, 1944 and burial was in the Logan Cemetery.
