Anna Irene was born 12 May, 1919 to Anna and Richard Jaenicke, being the
youngest of their six children. A brother Earl Laurel died at age nine
before her birth.
Irene received her teaching certificate at age 16, taught at one-room
schools, Wolf Creek (1936-37) and Portage near Logan, KS until 1939.
After her marriage to Willis Lafferty that was later annulled, she gave
birth to her first daughter Diana, April 20, 1939. Her parents helped by
taking care of Diana while she went to Beautician School in Kansas City,
MO. She met and married Albert Powell there later returning to have
Richard in Logan, KS on Oct 5, 1944. Dickie and she moved to CA while Al
was serving in the Army.
Mr. & Mrs. R.J. Jaenicke announce the marriage of their daughter, Irene,
to Sgt. Al Powell, son of Mrs Nettie Powell of Los Angeles.
The wedding took place Saturday, December 11th at the Wee Kirk of Heather
Chapel in Hollywood. The couple was attended by Mr. & Mrs. Dan Cole and
the reception followed at the Cole home.

Just a few months after his discharge, Al suffered a fatal heart attack
while they were living in California. Irene and son Richard returned to
live in Logan after Al's death.
Richard Jaenicke purchased a location on the main street of Logan, where
Irene started her beauty shop with living quarters in the back. She then
remarried Willis Lafferty and had Candice in 1948 with Michael following
in 1953. Irene owned two shops, opening another in Phillipsburg, KS in
January of 1963. She later sold the one in Phillipsburg and concentrated
on her shop in Logan, KS.
Her son Richard Powell son of Albert, died in 1964 at the age of 19.
Willis and Irene purchased a house in Logan on Church St, and moved from
their house on Main St. in 1964. A few years later when the uptown
location was purchased to build a new rest home, Irene moved her beauty
shop to their home on Church St. Irene worked over 30 years as a
beautician in Logan before her retirement.
She died in 1991, leaving her three children, six grandchildren, many
nephews and nieces. and her sister Lois (Jaenicke) Krouse with many
wonderful memories.
