Charles W. Copeland, Company H, 11th Reg't Indiana Infantry age 20* (he
lied about his age...should be just a little over 18 yrs old), 5' 8"
tall, fair complexion blue eyes light hair born in Shelby County,
Indiana. Occupation: farmer, Enlisted Feb. 15, 1865 in Indianapolis
Indiana for a 1 yr term. Bounty paid $33 1/3 due $66 2/3, Where credited
Thorncreek Twp, Whitley Co., 10th Congressional Dist., Mustered Out
Baltimore, MD July 26, 1865 (Civil War ended 5/26/1865). Civil War
Papers, To All Whom It May Concern: Know Ye, That Charles W. Copeland a
Private of Lieut David Wilson, Co. H, 11th Regiment of Indiana
Volunteers, who was enrolled on the 15th day of February one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-five to serve one year or during the war, is
hereby Discharged from the service of the United States this 26th day of
July 1865 at Ft. McHenry, Baltimore, MD by reason of (can't read line) No
objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist. Said Charles W.
Copeland was born in Shelby Co. in the State of Indiana, is 20 years of
age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by
occupation, when enrolled, a farmer. Given at Baltimore, MD this 26th day

see document . Granddaughter, Bette Weidman remembered C. W. Copeland
having a medal from the Civil War. Charles Wesley Copeland (son of
Warner Martin Copeland ) was born July 02, 1847 in Shelby Co., Indiana,
and died January 18, 1911 in Elliott, Iowa?. He married Martha Ann
Shearer November 13, 1870 in Wapello, Co., Iowa, the daughter of John
Shearer and Mary McLoney*. She was born May 29, 1845 in Indiana, and died
January 03, 1911 in Limon, Colorado.
