On March 31, 2001 the first “4 Paws For A Cure / The Dogwalk To Conquer Kids Cancer” took place in a park in Pacific Palisades, California. It all began when Steve Gordon, Executive Vice President of Creative Affairs for Viacom Productions, wanted to give something back to the organization that funded the research that helped save the life of his young daughter from cancer. So a small group of us got together and came up with this nifty idea to start a dog walk to raise money for The National Childhood Cancer Foundation. Little did we know this little idea would turn into a big fat nationwide money making event.
On September 14, 2003, the 3rd Annual “4 Paws For A Cure” was held at the La Brea Park next to the Paige Museum in Los Angeles, as well as in 8 other cities throughout the United States.
Hal
Sparks, Bob Saget, Soleil Moon Frye and lots of other celebs attended.
We had vendors, contests, music, food, raffles and lots of prizes…but
most important, we have raised over $140,000 to date for NCCF!
Visit
our website (www.Pawswalk.org)
and read more about all the events. Next up, will be St. Baldricks,
a wack-assy event where we raise money, congregate in an Irish pub
and shave our heads in solidarity with children who lose their hair
to cancer. This event happens all over the world, so check out the
website (www.stbaldricks.org)
and look for a St. Baldricks in your town.
We
are gonna cure this disease. The amazing thing about kids with cancer
is that they ARE kids and they just don’t know how to give up. Get
involved now so we can all make sure they have their fighting chance.
You won’t believe how good it will make you feel.
