Old Time Stick Making

Back before all the big-shot, big-money players had graphite or composite or whatever, we carved the tools of the trade by hand. The best wood we found were from trees in Honduras. This is Rico (my apprentice) working with the old Elmer's to join shaft to blade. We'd work all of the summer making the sticks for the upcoming season. These were some of our "backhander specials" (notice there's no curve, making for a sweet backhand shot.

Here I am with the most important stick making tool of all. We call it a "framer".

My other assistant Lupe survived, but Rico wasn't as lucky. I've crossed paths with bears in Alberta and Alaska, but these Honduran grizzes are the toughest!
