What is a Reformed
church?
The term Reformed is a historical term that goes back to the
16th century Reformation, a period when the church underwent radical changes in attempting
to return Christianity to the authority of Scripture. The desire of the Reformation was
not to change God's Word, but rather to bring the Church back into accord with it. Led by
Martin Luther and John Calvin, the Reformation churches split off from the errors of the
medieval Roman church and began what we know today as Protestantism. Thus the Reformed
faith is the faith which best reflects what Scripture teaches--any church that claims to
be a biblical, Protestant church should adhere to the historic Reformed faith.
Why a new church?
This new church was formed in January 2000 by believers in Davao City who are concerned and grieved that today's churches have
departed from scriptural teachings to accommodate modern social trends. Although members
of our congregation have come from various church backgrounds, we are united in our belief
in the Bible and the creeds of the church. We adhere to the teachings of the Reformation
which are: salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone, with
the only infallible words on earth being those of Scripture alone.
What's New?
Our name, Davao Reformed Christian Church, was disapproved by the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission due to another church which has a similar name. The church leaders then decided to change the name to "Davao Covenant Reformed Church." Please bear with us as we update our Web site.
