Today started out cool, almost cold. The ride out of Garden City towards Jetmore was one of the best-evers. The light wind was prevailing out of the northwest, giving us a shove down highway 156. When we reached the lunch stop at mile 32 around 9am, I decided to double back and try to complete a century. I chose to head west, then north up highway 23. This brought me into the quietest and emptiest part of the world that I've ever seen -- it was just gorgeous. On the two lane road, with bicycle-width shoulders, I saw maybe 20 cars in the hour and a half I was on it.

Rejoining the route, I was very near the last of today's riders, but I made it back to Kalvesta, the original lunch stop, before the lunch line was shutdown. The remainder of the ride was an easy spin over flat to rolling terrain, just perfect fun for a fixed-gear bike. By the time I got to Jetmore High School, the odometer read 101 miles.
Here's a shot from the evening's meeting. These folks are our route directors, Sherry, Dave, Julia and Ben, left-to-right.

I remember one of them saying that they had agreed (and I agree, too!) that today was one of the best days of riding ever.
