The northwest tailwinds of the previous day didn't continue. Instead, we had a little bit of a southerly crosswind to contend with.
The highlight of the day was a visit to the site of historic Fort Larned, located just a few miles west of the town of Larned. The old fort is nicely kept up and very interesting.

There were four-man bunks for the enlisted men (that's two per bed, with your head next to your bedmate's feet), and opulent officer's quarters (room for the entire family!). One of my favorites was this precursor to the trendy wood-fired-pizza-oven:

Here, the fort's blacksmith is working on some chain links:

Once in the town of Larned, I encountered a BIG hill -- one that made me question the sanity of riding a fixed-gear bike. After a few minutes of left-right-left-right on the pedals, I made it to the top -- not something I'd like to repeat often.
Dinner tonight was found at the Dando Restaurant in Larned. Chicken Fried Steak all-around -- YUM! And, thanks to Kathy Shomaker, another BAK-er, who noticed that our group was on foot, and over a mile from the school, so she offered to give us a ride back. What a dear!
Oh, and many thanks to Denise for simply returning my lost name tag, as opposed to embarrassing me at the nightly meeting. Thanks, Denise! Yes, I know I owe you...
