Day 5 - Sterling to Marion

A large part of today's route was spent rolling between nearly ripe wheatfields.  This was our route's longest leg -- 77 miles.

Today gave us the finest lunch stop of the week:  Old Towne Restaurant in Hillsboro.

We sampled some choices from the german menu, including bierock, german sausage, verenike (kind of like pasta stuffed with cottage cheese, then fried, and served under a ham gravy), fried potatoes, and a nice broccoli-raisin-sunflower seed salad.

I'm glad we only had about 10 more miles to go after downing that lunch.  Wow.

Speaking of food:  this evening's dinner was enjoyed at the Kingfisher Inn on Marion County Lake.  Nice restaurant.  They served a fine chicken parmesan.

Oh, and D&J Liquors sold single bottles of Old Peculiar.  What a treat!

So, by now, do you think all we do is ride/eat/drink?

We had been discussing that, so far, our route had been downright flat.  At the evening meeting, Dave reminded everyone that we'll be getting further into the Flint Hills tomorrow.  That makes me a little nervous about the wisdom of bringing the fixed-gear bike.  Oh well...
