No Sex #10
This
issue was published
by Steve Streeter under the Paige Comics logo. It featured 68 reduced digest pages on
white stock. It had a bright yellow wraparound cover. It was distributed in
1978. Now, years later, I have no
idea why I switched from Dan and Paul Watson to Steve. I do know
that the Watson's were starting to move on with their lives and fandom was
falling behind. I believe they were both looking at college and careers. In any
case, I was working with Steve with fan art, he had contributed to No Sex and he
had dabbled in publishing by putting out an excellent Outer Limits Newsletter
which I contributed too. He also put out his own zines. This issue did seem to
break away from the prior ones, by luck I had an excellent choice of art and
story and they all reflected the fun attitude I was feeling about
fandom and why I decided to do my own fanzine. of all the issues, this is the
one I feel did what I was trying to do in fandom and it only took ten issues to
get there. I really liked Bobs art and he was as technical as the Bode copiers
without the vulgarity.
Contents: The cover is by Robert Barger and the back is by Dave Sim. Both are autographed on my copy.
The cover feature is from Bob Bargers' Build your own
Universe, which gets into ships and planet for waging gaming, which was very
popular at the time. I was very much into D&D and space battle simulation.
Besides the regular features, I was starting to get Jerry Collins into the
issues, he brought us Retribution in his Bode style, the final
installment (five issues!) of CR Olivers' Journey to Another Here, Another
Now is illustrated by Marie and Stephen Schwartz, Bank Robbery by Stan
Osborne, Silver moon, Silver death by Gay and mike Brewer, Tour of Duty by me
and The Dying Folk by An Clovis. There is a great art portfolio by Earl Geier.
The back cover by Dave Sim is one of those could have been a front cover and
given all the fame he got in pro and fandom circles I should have gotten him on
the cover somehow.
Robert Barger, Rafael Kayanan, David Heath, Jerry Collins, Stan Osborn, Ward Batty, C Robert Oliver Jr., Marie and Stephen Schwartz, Mike and Gay Brewer, Earl Geier, An Clovis, Paul Watson, Lari Davidson, Chad Draper, Dave Sim.
Notes:
This issue showed the influence of art by two artist, Earl Geier and Jerry Collins. I could have probably kept issues going for decades just on the art these prolific artists sent to me. I tried my best by provided portfolios of their art but they were both very massive. As most know I eventually lost track of Jerry and would like to know hat happened to him.
