DAR Patriotism Award (formerly Good Citizenship Medal)
This award is presented to girls or boys in elementary, junior and senior high schools (private, public, parochial) who fulfill the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. One medal per grade may be given. Remember that education of our youth in American citizen is of supreme importance for national defense. It is most important to foster among school children a greater appreciation of the qualities of citizenship needed by our country if it is to retain sovereignty and independence.
It is recommended that the good citizenship medal be presented to students before their senior year in high school, so as not to confuse the award with the DAR Good Citizens pin.

Good Citizen Pin
The aim of the DAR Good Citizens Committee is to recognize and reward senior high school students who possess the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to Senior class students enrolled in accredited private or public secondary schools. The recommended procedure is for the faculty to select by vote three Seniors who best demonstrate the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, in their school, home, and community. From these three, the senior class will select, by vote, one senior student to be the school's "DAR Good Citizen".
Each school winner receives the DAR Good Citizens pin and certificate. The student may compete in a scholarship application and essay contest for district, state, division and national judging. The State award is $250. The National winner receives a scholarship of $3000, the National second place winner receives $1000, and the third place sinner receives a $750 scholarship, each to be sent to the school of the recipient's choice.

ROTC Medals
ROTC medals and campaign bars are awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in secondary school, junior college, college, or university ROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and the Naval Sea Cadet Units. ROTC medals have been awarded by the DAR since 1967 because the ROTC is such an important source of trained officers for our armed forces. In 1988, the Naval Sea Cadet program was authorized to receive only the bronze ROTC medal as cadets are not graduated as commissioned officers in the military service units.
Selection of the students to receive the DAR ROTC awards is made by professors of military science and the principal or head of the schools, junior colleges, colleges, or universities. A student must have demonstrated qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training.
The gold ROTC medal is given to only one graduating student per class, male or female, in a college or university Senior ROTC program who is being commissioned into the Military Service. Colleges or universities having more than one ROTC unit on campus (i.e., Army, Air Force, Navy, and/or Marine Corps) may present the medal to one graduating student in each unit.
The bronze ROTC medal is given to only one graduating student, male or female, in a graduating class in high school or junior college in the Junior ROTC Program.
If your school is not participating in any of these awards, and you would like further information, please contact the El Camino Real Chapter or a DAR chapter in your area
