Ball Breaker Drill

 

    

Text Box: Instructions:
1)      Set up a mini field 25 yards long, 10 yards wide with 5 yard end zones.
2)      Three players per team.
3)      Flip the disk for initial possession.
4)      Team on offense maintains possession until they score (if they commit a turnover, they must go back to the goal line and start over)
5)      Score is maintained by counting the number attempts to get a score (i.e. the defense gets points for each turnover).
6)      If a defender catches the disk, he must spike it.
7)      If a receiver pivots down the sideline instead of back towards the middle, it is a turnover.
8)      Stall count of five
9)      Traveling is a turnover

This drill is named ball breaker because it forces (via turnover) players to break out of old habits and to invert their pivots.  It is also very punishing to a team or player that turns the disc over a lot.  As opposed to Ultimate where there are seven players and a person can be defensive specialist, in Ball Breaker, you're forced to handle the disc early and often.
