Backhand Lift
|
The lift pass can be both one of the funnest throws off the field and also one of the deadliest and most effective on the field. It has the characteristic of being extremely stable, of moving above and beyond the marker quick quickly and then stalling (floating) for your receiver to catch it easily. The trick on this throw is to be able to lift the disc straight up and to also lift more on the back side of the disc than the front so that the front is slightly lower than the back when you release it.
1) With your hips/shoulders/feet square, begin in the square stance as shown on the Skills and Drills page.2) Start the throwing motion by lowering the disc down to your left side, slightly turning your hips and shoulders to the left. 3) While trying to keep the disc flat throughout the throwing motion, reach across your body and begin to lift the disc straight up. 4) Keep your right arm straight throughout the motion. 5) As your motion approaches the apex (top) of your reach, start to begin throwing the disc forward. 6) Keep your eyes focused on the target throughout the motion and at the point of release, snap your wrist to give the disc extra spin. 7) Try it with your other hand as well. The Grip
The grip for the backhand lift puts an emphasis on putting upward pressure on the back side of the disc. Ring/pinkie fingers are folded over so their finger nails can press upwards. The tip of the middle finger is also pressed against the bottom surface of the disc, slightly behind the mid (fulcrum) line to add more upward thrust to the back side of the disc. Index finger folded over the rim for direction and more upward thrust.
