| This is a two-owner 1967 GTV. It has been treated well and always lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. It had a brief fling in Italy, when the first owner picked it up from the factory, then it came to California in its original appliance-white, steel wheel and skinny tire glory. Soon after I bought it, in 1984, the car was painted BMW Baltic Blue, a great color for a GTV. Then its original 1600cc motor was replaced with a 1750 engine. It has Shankle 8L cams and the original DCOE 40 Webers. Also added early on was a wonderful Magnetti Marelli electronic ignition. Good-bye burned points and fouled plugs! The Marelli ignition is so reliable I've forgotten how to use my timing light and engine analyzer. The wheels are from a 1983 or 84 Spider. Beware the offset, however. Fitting them takes some doing. Sixteen years after the first new paint job, it came time for another re-spray and new upholstery. While the Alfa had no serious prior damage and only two small spots of rot on the front fenders, after it left for the body shop, in January of 2000, I didn't get to drive it again for two full years! In the process I reaffirmed why restoring a sports car is like investing in the 1999-2001 stock market. The money just flat out disappears as fast as you feed the monster, but no one knows for sure where it all goes. |
