If you have a 6 series and have experienced trouble with the intermittent wiper switch (e.g., you turn on the intermittent wipers and nothing happens or they work for a minute or two and then stop), check the motor/gear assembely. This assembly is located under the hood on the driver's side (high up on the firewall below the windshield).

To access the assembly, slide off the protective rubber cover and remove the top plate (held on with three slot headed machine screws). This will expose an eccentric drive mechanism, some electric contact points, and lots of old factory grease. Some of the grease may have worked its way onto the contact points and may be creating an intermittent shoft. Clean off the grease, relube the moving parts and replace the plate and rubber cover. This should correct tha problem.
