Steering Gear Mounting Bolt

Attention/warning for owners of the following cars: all E24 bodies (6 series) and all E28 bodies (5 series), early E32 bodies ('88 and '98 7 series) and early E34 bodies ('89 5 series).
There is a large bolt (19mm, 5 1/2" long) which holds the steering gearbox onto the car frame. This bolt can fail leaving you without steering. There is a new part number for this bolt (the old one is NLA). The new number is 32 12 1 136 051. List price is $11.52 but can be gotten for less from Roundel advertisers. Since replacement goes quickly, loosing your steering is not something to risk.
