1990 Porsche 928 GT Approximately 478 1990 Porsche 928s were produced for the US market, of which approximately 70 were 5 speed GT models. (Vs. the 928 S4 automatic transmission models) The 928 GT produces 326 bhp & 317 ft/lbs vs. the 928 S4 at 316 bhp & 317 ft/lbs. Per the original 1990 928 Porsche brochure, hotter cams & a lower restriction exhaust were responsible for the extra power. The original base window sticker price was approximately $76,000! Porsche North America has a Certificate Of Authenticity Program & will produce the original sales price of the vehicle & options ordered. (For a fee) My car currently has 22,525 miles & has the following option codes: C02 (Catalytic Converter) 046 (Unknown option) 418 (Side Moldings) 474 (Sport Shocks) 498 (Delete GT lettering) 570 (Rear AC) 650 (Electric Sunroof) 691 (Blaupunkt CD 2) Electronically controlled limited-slip, (PSD) dual airbags & tire pressure monitoring system (RDK) were standard equipment for both 928 models. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in using or purchasing any of these images. (Available in various print sizes) Enjoy!
Still tied down in the enclosed transporter. The driver had a full load of 7 cars + 1 motorcycle, stacked two high on a 78' custom trailer. NICE!
Design 90 wheels & probably the second set of Bridgestone RE71 tires, which are no longer available.
That classic look of the 928's exposed headlights.
This body design was WAAAAY ahead of its time!
AWESOME seats, gauges that are classic white on black, short shift lever & HUGE power while being pampered in total comfort. Not bad for a car that is almost 14 years old!
The first year Porsche offered passenger side airbags on the 928.
Yes, those rear seats are actually usable!
A masterpiece of all aluminum German engineering... Does it run? :) Oh yeah, it runs! Some random, rambling thoughts & impressions: 1. My car is 14 years old. Some of the rubber & plastic pieces disintegrate in your hands at first touch, others crumble after hitting road bumps. 2. A $.99 J.C. Whitney interior light will be $30.00 if it has a Porsche part number. Sure enough, my license plate lights (they LOOK like a $.99 item!) are $THIRTY$$$ EACH! 3. Of course, a Porsche 928 ignition key is going to cost $75 - $150+! Yes, it's a "special" key, yes, only a few locksmiths have the proper tool/jig to grind the blanks, but... Ahhhh, you get the picture! 4. 14 year old US/DOT legal headlights are absolutely PATHETIC! Just as I replaced the US lights on my BMW M6 to Euro Hella H4 lights, I did the same with my 928. (Bosch Euro H4) Yup, they are expensive, but paired with the PIAA Super Plasma GT-X the difference is literally night & day. Instead of a weak blob of dirty light I now have concentrated CLEAN & powerful light on both low & high beams. AWESOME & WELL worth the $$$! 5. When driving one of these old "monsters" you become PAINFULLY aware of EVERY rattle, creak & groan. Remember, these GTs are sprung CONSIDERABLY stiffer than the S4 models, especially when damped with the factory Sport shocks. 6. Crank it up to "healthy" speed ranges on a winding road & the magic hits. HARD! The rattles magically disappear & suddenly the suspension feels just right. In fact, after 25 - 30 miles of pushing HARD on those same roads at speeds only a select few cars can even dream of achieving you start to wonder if maybe, just maybe a tad more suspension wouldn't be helpful. :) 7. Even after 14 years there are very few cars that can keep up with this old beast on a winding country road at high speeds. The list becomes even shorter when you factor in the TOTAL package of brutal acceleration, intuitive handling, absolutely monstrous braking capabilities & the ability to run those high speeds under those conditions for MUCH longer than a human body can tolerate. Unbelievable! 8. Running against my neighbor's C5 Corvette on a winding river road this old beast more than held it's own. I thought for SURE he would absolutely flatten me. After all, a C5 'Vette with Borla cat back exhaust, K & N intake, etc. isn't exactly a slow vehicle! :)
Just your generic "everyday" ride... :) Canon EOS 1Ds EF28-70mm f/2.8L @ 44mm ISO 100 Man 1/200 @ f/8.0 +2/3EV
The Borla exhaust sounds absolutely AWESOME! Canon EOS 1Ds EF28-70mm f/2.8L @ 57mm ISO 100 Man 1/125 @ f/11 My car, when pushed, still puts the power down to the road, HARD. It's VERY, VERY fast, very quick & handles EXTREMELY well. Overall, it does EXACTLY what it was designed to do 14 years ago. It actually IS an "exquisite blend of luxury & high performance."
