| James Wierzbicki, Ph.D. / musical consultant |
| National Public Radio, the Kennedy Center, Seventeen Magazine, the National Endowment
for the Arts, New Music America, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Grove's Dictionary
of Music & Musicians, the National Association of College Band Directors, the Music
Critics' Association of North America, Florida State University, Indiana State University
-- these are among the many organizations that have made use of James Wierzbicki's
services. As a consultant, Wierzbcki has served as lecturer, instructor, panelist, adjudicator, editor, writer and planner of agenda. These days, he is most interested in designing multimedia repertoire for festivals and participating as critic/panelist/discussant in "residency" situations that involve numerous performances and forums concentrated in a short period of time. Twenty years as a full-time music/dance critic for major metropolitan newspapers provided Wierzbicki with intimate knowledge of the so-called standard repertoire. But as his résumé illustrates, he is also an expert in the music of non-Western cultures, electronic music technology, the aesthetics of the late 20th century, the history of theatrical music and several other fields. To all of them, he brings clear-headed thinking, a bounty of insight and a rare ability to translate often difficult musical concepts into plain and articulate language. |
