The Diversity of Ilviran Beliefs

Ilviran beliefs are many and diverse. This stems, in part, to the absence of any centralized ecclesiastical authority that could define orthodoxy. It is also due to the individualism and pluralism shared by most of the god's followers. In the words of one famed Ilviran scholar:

The Shaper makes his creatures in countless forms. He takes innumerate forms himself. Why, therefore, should our worship of Him take one form alone?

—Ymris of Rodyll, Priest of the Yellow Hand

Indeed, it is not considered problematic for priests of the same temple to hold widely divergent views on theology. Nor are priests considered schismatics if they leave their temple and to join or found another with divergent views. Above all else, Ilviran encourages the development of a personal understanding of the relationship between Ilvir, the universe, and oneself. Nonetheless, the ranks of the god's followers include a few fanatics who believe that their view alone is right.

Although there is no orthodox Ilviran “doctrine”, there are still some very general items of belief that are held by most Ilvirans on the Hârnic Isles. The most common such beliefs are listed on the Specifics page (located on the right navigation bar).

The specific teachings of Brother Olrau, the PCs' spiritual leader, are described on the Brother Olrau pages.
