About Ilvir

Ilvir is probably the strangest god in the Hârnic pantheon. He is also the only major deity believed to reside physically on Hârn. According to legend, he dwells the deep caverns of Araka-kalai, in the land of Misyn, just north of Lake Benath.

Ilvir has no fixed appearance or so the faithful believe. Instead, he is a protean deity, taking whatever form suits him at the moment. Tradition recounts that his favorite form is that of The Great Worm, a strange cross between a giant reptilian serpent and a slimy and gelatinous worm, able to exude limbs, organs, and other appendages at will.

Despite his monstrous (to human eyes) appearance, Ilvir is generally held to be a quiet, peaceable, and introspective god. According to myth, he rarely meddles in the affairs of other deities. Instead, he prefers to remain within the pits of Araka-Kalai, where he devotes himself to his strange and mysterious Art— the creation and reincarnation of the strange beings known as Ivashu.

Save the Jarin of the north and minority of Kaldorans, few Hârnians revere Ilvir. Most consider him a minor deity of little relevance. Among non-adherents, he is often labeled a 'monster god' and is known by a number of dismal epithets, most notably The Brooder in the Blasted Plains, The Serpent That Dwells Below, The Accursed Lord of the Barren Cycle, and The Craven Lord of the Sterile Lands.

While there is little orthodoxy among Ilvirans, the god's followers generally believe that their deity is misunderstood. They see him as a god of creation and creativity, a giver of life and a craftsman devoted to his (admittedly strange) art. They more often address him as The Father-Creator, The Maker and Shaper, The Giver of Life Reborn, and Lord of the Manifold Multitudes.
