   General Notes:

John Box born 1599 Kent, England, came to Virginia aboard the ship 'True Love' in 1622. He was 23 years old, he was also listed in the Virginia Muster in 1623, and in Virginia People in 1624/25. Settlers living at "Chaplains Choise, Charles Cittie", in Virginia, January 1624/25. Sources "Hotten's Lists" and "Adventures of Purse and Person". ⁴

It seems many Box families went to the Southern states of America in the early 1600, possibly or probably to avoid religious persecution in England. It is known at least one Box family in Sussex had connections with the Quakers, and many others were Methodists and Baptists. One of the out-standing characteristics of Box family members, both male and female, is their fiercely independent and non-conformist attitudes to authority. Like most pioneers they were very strong willed people, they had to be to survive.
Their non-conformist attitudes did not generally lead to criminal activities, but more to freedom of speech and beliefs. This was not popular with Queen Elizabeth 1's policy of 'One Nation, One Faith', Church of England.
From the internet I found reference to 'The Complete Book on Emigrants', Order of Ancient Planters'. To be a member of the 'Order of Anceint Planters', one had to be a direct descendant of an original member.
"The term "Ancient Planters" is applied to those persons who arrived in Virginia before 1616, remained for a period of three years, paid their passage, and survived the massacre of 1622. They received the first patents of land in the New world as authorised by Sir Thomas dale in 1618 for their personal adventure". One name on a list of descendants was John Box.

John married Mary. (Mary was born about 1610 in England ⁴ and died in Henrico, Isle Of Wight Co., VA ^{4 6}.)
