Studios May Relent on Oscar 'Screener' Ban The screeners ban could be have a chilling effect to independent films. Screeners are DVDs or Video Tapes that are given to Voters for the Oscars. They are given out because there are so many nomminees, that it would be impossible to see them all in theators. The MPAA annouced a ban as an measure to combat piracy. Intrestingly although many actors and artist oppose the ban, heavyweights such as George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg have opted not to sign the petition.
A petition for movie goers also available.
