The Big Rain
Yesterday it rained in Galveston, I barely escaped. I was at the intersection of 61st St. and I45 at 6:45, but it was raining so hard I didn't notice that Home Depot had collapsed. In a few minutes the roads would have been impassable due to flooding and I wouldn't have been able to get off the island I was on my way to Corpus Christi, and by the time I got into Lamarque the rains had let up. Equality stayed home, but made some errands and made some observations
Home Depot was only opened a few months, and the Front of the building collapsed. They can blame the tremendous amount of rain, but there are lots of old buildings in Galveston with flat roofs that are still standing. Design error, inferior materials, or defective workmanship is certainly to blame. Storms like this are to be expected, and they should be built to survive. No one was killed .The store wasn't open yet and the workers were gathered in another part of the building.
This morning there are crews already there, with some heavy equipment, probably to secure and investigate just how and where the failure occurred
