Catch up.
I haven't been able to do much blogging these days, Its not blogger burnout, its all about not enough hours in the day. Ruok's house is almost ready and we are busy helping her get in. NASA is ramping up a little and its been keeping me busy at work. The last couple of days I have been upgrading my pocket PC. They came out with an upgrade for the Axim 30 and I just had to have the latest and greatest, especially because it was free. If anyone intends on upgrading their Axim be careful, do lot restore your data from your backup. The proper way to do it is to:
1 Back up and install your Rom
2 Back up your data to Storage memory.
3 Install the ROM upgrade.
4 Restore your Data by doing a sync.
5 Do not restore the Data from Storage mememory.
6 Reinstall any programs you might have had previously installed.
I had intended to write a full review on my Dell Axim 30, but there are plenty of them out there to be found. I have previously had a Handspring Palm O/S unit, but I do find find the Microft based O/S a lot better, I use it mostly as my little black book. I keep it sync'd with my home and work Outlook contact data base. Its real handy to make field notes that can be coverted to Word documents. I also find that the Excel spread shhet is useful, I use it to create adhoc spread sheets. for simple things like calculations and lists. My one 3rd party program I use a lot is a free calculator calc98. The caculator is also available for the desktop. Its a good scientific Calculator, that will work with Hexidecimal, Octal and Binary. It works with 10 memorys and a great conversion utility.
My Axim is wireless and I use that feature once in a while, I hope to use the Bluetooth functionality at some point with a GPS hard ware and navigation software.
If one has use of simple computer utility away from a desk, and hate the idea of lugging a laptop around this is a great device. I've had mine for 4 months, and I'm still finding more uses for it.
