On December 26, 1981 John
and Debbie Lopez moved to Porterville, CA. to assume ownership of Baskin-Robbins
#2079 on December 31. With them came their 2 sons, Steve, then 2, and Tim,
then 6 months. John had previously worked as a carpenter, framing houses
for 8 years, while Debbie, after attending Bethany Bible College in Santa
Cruz for 3years, worked for her father in his Baskin-Robbins store in Merced,
CA., and managing his second store in Atwater, CA.
In the following 15 years, Sam, Leah, David, Daniel, and Katie have been added to our family, making the Baskin-Robbins in Porterville a truly family operated store! The children, so far, have begun their retail experiences in the store by their 10th birthday, although plenty of jobs can be found for them at a much younger age. Since all the children have been homeschooled, we have found this work experience most beneficial to their learning, and a good work ethic is seldom taught in public schools, but really needed in today's society!
When Allied-Domecq informed us, John and Debbie Lopez, local Baskin-Robbins franchisees for almost 17 years, that our franchise agreement would not be renewed, we decided we wanted to continue to keep it all about ice cream at the corner of Olive and D. To this end, we are proud to announce our new name, All About Ice Cream, continuing at 40 W. Olive in Porterville, featuring premium and super–premium ice cream made by McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams in Santa Barbara. On Oct. 31, 1998 we started a new adventure.
