Some of My Poetry

I grew up around a wide variety of music. Woody Guthrie's song 'Tom Joad' made a big impression on my brothers, my sister and I. The LP was like he was singing The Grapes Of Wrath. We listened to him a lot. Also we listened to some of the musician's and songwriters in his circle, and one very famous one he inspired and was, for a time a mentor to, (Bob Dylan). Ramblin Jack Elliot's powerful rendition of a Woody Guthrie song 'I Ain't Got No Home In This World Anymore' had an enormous impact on me. The poem I wrote is almost twenty years old.

The other poem, 'History is Behind the Eyes' I wrote in 1982-83. I read this poem at my Mom's memorial. It will always be connected to her in my heart. The last lines, in particular, 'Nothing is over: Lightning strikes in echoes. Thunder scatters secrets like spores'.
