Other Artists
These are some of my other favorite artists. Here I'll post some quotes by these artists and last but not least, links to their Internet sites! Where I find links to Dusty, I'll post those too!
Fiona Apple: Fiona Apple is reallly extrordinary. Her new album Extraordinary Machine is a long time coming!! Every song resonates with me. It's rare that I like an entire album, however, I do!! Check it out!! Go to Fiona's site at www.fionaapple.com and hear O' Sailor and Parting Gift.
Beth Orton: This Brit has been called "soulful". She sings with conviction and immense honesty. James Sullivan of the San Francisco Chronicle had this to say regarding Beth "She is the updated, all-natural Dusty Springfield: no hair spray, no false eyelashes, just a deep affection for downhearted folk and soul music and a remarkably lush singing gift to express it." Even Beth herself feels her music is soulful. Here's Beth in her own words "I think what I do is quite soulful, really, and it's packaged and sold as pop." Interested in finding out more about Beth? Orton Link to Dusty - She's a Brit, like Dusty, and Beth has listed Some Of Your Lovin' as one of her favorite songs. Favorite Quote: "Paint what you know, not what you see, hope binds reason, thankfully" (From "Anywhere" off of Beth's Daybreaker album)
Sara Groves: Sara is a unique, gifted singer/songwriter. She crafts songs from the heart and helps to vocalize things we cannot put into words. There are many comparisons that others draw from Sara's artistry; however, she's one of a kind. Several artists have influenced her. Some say she sounds like Sarah McLachlan/Carole King/Tori Amos etc. She enjoys writing from the piano, as those artists do; however, she draws inspiration from her own life, surroundings, and her relationship with God etc. It is the inspiration and the various sources she derives them from that set Sara and her music apart from other artists. She is limitless. Every album she's released has received critical acclaim from Billboard Magazine, CCM and countless others. Her latest album, Other Side Of Something, is awesome!! Don't just take my word for it, see for yourself at Sara Groves Sara Quote: "You've Done A Good Work In Me And You're Making Me Free!Ó NEW: Sara's new album, Add To The Beauty is now available in stores! Add to the Beauty features Loving A Person, Add To the Beauty and many more! Sara just finished a short tour, however, she also released a Dual Disc Of Add To The Beauty complete with a documentary of the creation process. Also an in store show was showcased at Best Buy!! Wonder why that appealed to me??? Hmmm.... :)
Sheryl Crow: Sheryl has captured the public's interest since her first album, Tuesday Night Music Club in 1994. Tuesday Night Music Club netted Sheryl A Grammy award for Best New Artist. I love Sheryl's albums all of them actually, however, Tuesday Night Music Club still remains my favorite Sheryl Album. Mostly for songs like Run Baby Run for cool lyrics like "She was born in November 1963, the day Adlous Huxley Died" Another reason I enjoy Sheryl may stem from the fact that she's from Missouri! She's a former music teacher to kids with disabilities. But she's such a great songwriter and always has had my respect! Her newest album contains fun, positive songs like Soak up the Sun and many others! If you'd like to learn more about Sheryl, visit Sheryl Crow NEW: For Soundclips visit Sheryl's website. She'll be touring in support of her new album this fall.
Keane: Keane's Hopes and Fears is one of the albums I've heard in years! Songs like Somewhere Only We Know, We Might As Well Be Strangers and Everybody's Changing give this British Band an A +!! To learn more visit Keane's website Here .
Lori Chaffer: Lori is new to my list of unique artists and as of late, is receiving lots of time in my C.D. player and IPod. Her solo album 1 Beginning is fabulous. I'm a fan of Edie Brickell and when I first sat down to listen to this album, some of the phrasing and writing reminded me of Edie. But even though there a few similarities, she's unique in her voice and the way her songs can cut you to the core. My personal favorite is If I Said I Don't Mind then You Can Sing. But if you're looking for a fresh voice with great songwriting look no further than Lori's album 1Beginning! I had the opportunity to meet Lori recently and thought she was great!!!!
