I am one of seventy artists selected to paint fifty small paintings in fifty days, with our own choice of (gallery-approved) subject matter.

Painting fifty images of my hand has inspired me to seriously undertake the study of portraiture, a genre I have enjoyed dabbling in literally all of my life. My mother drew portraits of all her children, and one of my earliest memories is of her showing me how to divide the face to achieve a likeness. I hope you will check back on my progress from time to time, as I will one day be ready to accept portrait commissions. At present I am practicing painting my own face in monochrome only, and this is my latest endeavor, painted april 22, 2008.

"Late day, Early Fall"
is part of the American Impressionist Salon Invitational Exhibit August - September, 2007, at the Hilligoss Gallery in Chicago. It is 36" x 48", oil on canvas, painted in my studio from one of my smaller plein air paintings.

Learn the basics of oil painting or improve your skills in brushwork, color, composition, and perspective in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere, through demonstrations and guided student painting.
