<-------------------------------------------SPOILER ALERT FOR X-MEN 2--------------------------------------------------->

Q: who's that cute asian girl in the professor's classroom? she was in both movies.
A: that is jubilation lee, or jubilee as she's known later on. very young, she has the power to create fireworks. she's actually a fairly new member in the comic book series. she ran into wolverine on one of his missions, and he couldn't get rid of her. in a way, rogue was shoehorned into jubilee's role in logan's life in the movies. because jubilee was wolverine's unlikely sidekick for a while in the comic series. weird.

Q: is senator kelly dead? in the movie it looks like he died and i know mystique pretended to be him in the second movie, but does the rest of the world know he's dead? the reason i ask is cause im pretty sure mystique cant be him all the time. i know they made a joke about it initially, but how can he still be senator if he's never around?
A: did senator kelly die in the first movie? hmm...i'll have to rewatch it. as far as the comic book series is concerned, senator kelly was never captured by magneto as portrayed in the first movie. he is a major opponent, and did a lot of law passing to regulate the mutant population. he actually helped to create a group of government-sponsored super-robots to contain and police the mutant population...known as the sentinels.

Q: was stryker's kid "jason" someone from the comics? what was he doing with dr xavier? was he controlling him/making him hallucinate?
A: there is no jason in the comic book series. he is a character made up for the movie. so was toad, in the first movie. i believe there was a villian named stryker, but he was a supervillian with powers.

Q: was pyro supposed to join magento and his evil mutants?
A: my memory is a bit shaky on this question. as far as i knew, there was a guy named rusty who was able to control fire as pyro did. he was a part of new mutants (a younger school also runned by the professor) for a bit, then went off to do his own thing, and also helped evil guys. a very minor comic book character.

the movie seems to be making him more important than the comic book series ever did.

Q: is nightcrawler supposed to be a good mutant?
A: nightcrawler is not only a good mutant, he's one of the main figures of the new x-men cast. the x-men were actually two seperate team of superheroes.

let me give you a refresher history:

x-men #1-94 had the following main members: scott, jean grey, angel, iceman, beast (dr hank mccoy, who made a brief television appearance in X2 btw).

this original cast got captured, so the professor created another team of x-men with brand new members. these new x-men rescued the original team members.

x-men #94-250ish had the following main members: wolverine, storm, colossus (the big guy with the kids in X2), nightcrawler, kitty pride (girl who walks through walls), and rogue.

the original crew went into semi-retirement, made cameos, eventually formed their own group called X-Factor, and just recently rejoined with the professor and new x-men members.

therefore x-men #250 and on has: both original and new x-men cast members on the same team as well as psylocke, gambit, cable, bishop, jubilee (asian girl student in X2), and many other new cast members. as you may be able to tell, the x-men total roster and history is absolutely enormous.

so the movie mixes and matches team members horrendously. in fact, no one even heard of wolverine, storm, colossus, nightcrawler, kitty pride, nor rogue for the first say 15 years of x-men history. and both groups only later actually started working together just in the past 10 years or so (1993 and on).

Q: the other guy told me rogue was supposedly evil turned good. right now she is good. in the link he sent me, she was on mystique's evil team, per the movie did they just skip over all that or was she supposedly already evil and i missed it?
A: your friend is correct. rogue was evil, part of mystique's group. then she joined the x-men. actually, quite a few of the x-men were originally evil. again, the movie does not follow the history of the comic book that well. for a long fan like me, its almost painful to watch.

Q: did dr jean gray die in the original series?
A: jean grey died in the comic series. she then resurrected as phoenix (you might remember seeing a phoenix shape under water in the very last scene of X2). as phoenix, she was still part of the x-men.

then she grew more powerful and transformed into dark phoenix. as dark phoenix, she became evil and eventually the most powerful being on earth. it took all of the x-men as well as the other superheros (fantastic four, avengers, etc) to stop her from destroying the earth. this was known as the "dark phoenix saga".

Q: according to the link this guy sent me, she became dark phoenix -- but in the movie version are we supposed to assume she became dark phoenix before she died, or will she be coming back as dark phoenix?
A: see answer above

Q: was the migraines/visions she was having supposed to be indicative of her changes or just her senses telling her stuff was soon to go awry?
A: the migraines were the movie's way of forecasting her transformation, i assume. but this was not so in the comic book series. you have to keep in mind that in the comic books, her transformation from jean grey to phoenix to dark phoenix was very gradual and took years of storylines to take place. the movies don't have that luxury of time and buildup.

Q: in the comics was she supposed to be in love with both scott and logan? who is supposed to be her true love?
A: the movie actually does a decent job of showing her mutual feelings for logan and scott. but in the end, she will always love scott as her true love. in the comic series, they marry later on and form another group outside of the x-men.

logan has that animal, badboy allure for her. that is all. like most women, she grows out of that badboy phase and marries a responsible man for her future.

Q: is rogue supposed to like iceboy (my name for him) per the comics? also, was pyro jealous of their relationship cause in the movie it seemed like it.
A: no. rogue falls in love with a man named gambit (remy lebeau, who's name briefly appears on the computer monitor as mystique is downloading files in X2), as well as magneto way later on in the comic series. also in the comic series, she is far older than iceman. rogue is actually in her mid 20s.

iceman is a kid, as well as a founding member of the original x-men roster. rogue was part of the new x-men. they never really worked or were around each other much in the comic series.

feel free to email me any more questions about X2 and x-men in general and i'll do my best to answer them.
