I'm pulling from Tom Tomorrow pretty heavily today, but his blog is excellent, and his politics are better.
"Civilized people -- Muslims, Christians and Jews -- all understand that the source of freedom and human dignity is the Creator," Ashcroft said in prepared remarks released by the Justice Department. "Civilized people of all religious faiths are called to the defense of His creation. We are a nation called to defend freedom -- a freedom that is not the grant of any government or document, but is our endowment from God." -- John Ashcroft

There are hawks at Market and Van Ness. You have to understand, this intersection is the very center of San Francisco, where the two main drags meet. My little non-descript office is a block away, but I am afforded an excellent view from my 6th floor window. Once in a while, as I sit doing my work, I hear the unmistakable "screeeeaayyyyyee" of a red-tailed hawk. And I jump from my seat and see them, high overhead, circling. The poor pidgeons just about come unglued and flap in a crowded frenzy to get away from what must be for them scariest sound on earth.
It's a wonder to me, to sit at the very nexus of 21st century commerce, the epicenter of urban development and to see something so ancient as a raptor on the wing, riding the updrafts from the Fox Plaza building, looking for prey. It's a beautiful thing.

So, I wander the internet, I do.. what of it! I blog hop - following the links where they take me, ingesting tiny portions of someone else's life. I enjoy it, I enjoy the sidetracks. And I see this bio page: What it Feels Like For a Girl. And I realize that A) I'm really old B) that I'm really a snob and that C) feminism is dead. long live gurl power.

thanks to my readers! Some of you were total strangers, which I find tremendously exciting. This is such a message in a bottle sort of medium that to get answers from the far flung reaches of the world is particularly satisfying. Gracias. Will endeavour to keep your interest.

So, Sarah and I are readying ourselves for our trip to Mexico on Saturday. This blog will lie fallow for a week and when I return, I'll have the pleasure of telling you how happy and tan I am. I can't frickin' wait! Today is wet and miserable in SF, and I keep thinking about where I'll be in week. Here's the forecast in Zihuatanejo. Read 'em and weep.

Is anyone out there?
I've been keeping this log for a few months now. I've yet to receive any indication that anyone has actually read it. I've not received a single, solitary note. Hell, I can barely get my girlfriend to read it. So, I say, what is the use of all this self-publishing if no one comes to see? It's the "if a tree falls in the forest" thing. What is the sound of one man blogging? Clickety-click-clickety-tap. Maybe I should change the name. How about "party of one"? Here's some more:

Well, I'm not a big Valentine's kind of guy. In fact, I resent the marketing machine that makes me feel like a heel if I don't go out and plunk down three fiddy for a card. (3.50 for a card! I remember when a whole goddamn paperback book was two fiddy!) Anyway, at the last minute I decided to make Sarah a little romantic dinner. And even though my pork chops were perfect. (Nothing says "I love you" like a pork chop) it was Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane who did the heavy lifting. This album is all you need.

I had to complain about the the idiots commenting on NBC at the otherwise pretty respectable olympic opening. This is an email I sent over to the Network. Was it my imagination, or did Bob quiet down?
What might have been a moving, or touching theatrical experience that I might have had while viewing tonight's Olympic Opening Ceremony was made all but impossible by the constant chatter of your hosts. Have they never been to a theatrical performance? Do they squawk like that during a movie? I finally resorted to turning down the volume, I feel bad for the musicians who no doubt practiced for weeks to be ready for the performance.
Not speaking does not mean dead air. Sometimes, the pictures do all the talking.
