Twenty years later...

The APL Hi-Fi UA-S1 on the inside with it's single voltage gain stage built around two ECC99 triodes with a zero-gain, no-feedback bipolar power buffer.

Maple burl Thingamaknob!
This is easily the finest sounding amp I've ever heard! It's extremely musical, natural, transparent and highly resolving without being overly analytical... truly a joy to listen to.

My old modified Golden Tube SE-40

This amplifier was a beast. It's modifications included; Auricap .33/600's, Sonicap Platinum .1's, Mundorf 3.9's were added to the empty side possitions, all bypass and power supply caps were replaced with Panasonics, bias current resistors were replaced with Vishay S102's, resistor for heaters was doubled, the signal wires were replaced with silver in Teflon and the output transformers are were routed directly to the binding posts, which were replaced with single screw Cardas Patented Binding Posts. Most of the connectors were removed and the board traces were bypassed wherever possible.

Inside the APL Hi-Fi modified Denon 2900. It's been completely redesigned by Alex Peychev with ten pounds worth of upgrades including SE triode pure class "A" output stage built around the Super Linear ECC99 Dual Triode tube, an R-core transformer, Shottky and HEXFREDs, the latest technology rectifiers specially selected for best sound, highest quality voltage regulating devices, Panasonic capacitors, extensive digital (DSP) board power supply and clock upgrades.

This unique SE Class A design has a 211KHz up-sampling, a hybrid attenuator and a total of 2 components on the entire signal path from the DAC outputs to the line output. It's equipped with custom built Lundahl output transformers, proprietary master control clock, wired point to point with 99.9999% pure silver in Teflon wiring for the signal path, damped transport and Herbies Audio Lab virgin peek Halo damping instruments.
