The Death PenaltyIs the death penalty justified? Death penalty proponents argue that the death penalty acts as a deterrent to crime, and justice is done to the perpetrators and for the victims of the crimes and their families. Death penalty opponents argue that the deterrence value of the death penalty is questionable at best, that the death penalty is just as costly as life imprisonment, that the finality of the capital punishment is irreversible for the innocent person that is put to death, and, above all, what kind of example of "justice" does capital punishment set for the society that practices it? We do not rape rapists, beat people who
assault, or cut off the hands of thieves, should we also be acting as murderers? Resources
