conclusion posited by finite logical premises as "proofs"; whether for or against their existence.  If there is a transcendent personal reality we call "God", in other words, it most likely could not be wholly contained nor evacuated under a deductively rationalistic scheme.

God's reality as mind, as a person, may nevertheless be reasonable.

It is a fallacy to believe that a cause is intrinsically greater than an effect, as Hannah Arendt has pointed out.  Molecules are not greater than our cells, our cells are not greater than our organs, our organs are not greater than our bodies simply because each causes the other in turn.

Likewise, even if finite reality is caused by and is dependent on infinite reality, it doesn't follow that infinite reality, solely for that reason, must therefore contain something at least greater than what is contained in finite reality, namely mind and personality.  Causes may produce a synergy effect which is greater: a synergy of molecules may produce a cell which has greater qualities (life, growth, etc.) than the molecules which caused it.

Now this may be true if the caused reality is solely dependent on the causing reality, but what if the cause of something is also at the same time greater than that which it causes?  For not only does infinite and unconditional reality cause finite reality, but it also is greater than the finite which it causes.  For the infinite doesn't end, the finite does end; the absolute is without conditions, the finite is conditioned.

If infinite and unconditioned reality is greater in the first place than finite reality, it seems reasonable that infinite reality would not contain anything lesser than finite reality, namely mind.  Next »
