Goodbye, Loretto.

St. Mary's here I come.

This page is a tribute to my daughter Courtney who is a 1999 graduate of Loretto High School .  She is now attending St. Mary's College of California as part of the class of 2003. How fast they grow up.

Everything in this story is true! I am not exaggerating even though I have a tendency to do that. This is the story of the typical and atypical college students. GUESS WHICH ONE IS ME!!!!

Scene:

English class, final paper, you pick the topic, it has to be argumentative in nature. You pick something that you are interested in... The Leo Frank Case where a (supposedly) guilty man was convicted of the murder of a young girl in his employ at his factory, convicted sentenced to death but through a course of events is killed by an angry mob. You say he's innocent the world thinks he's guilty. Found your information. Last Friday, had to turn in your outline and your notes.

Prepare for a weekend to write your paper. ROUGH DRAFT DUE WEDNESDAY AT 12:40 P.M.

Typical----Get drunk and go to SMC Day Off concert and fun day having a great time tripping over everyone.

Atypical----Stay in your room all weekend working pretty much non-stop on your English paper rough draft. Even while you watch the Kentucky Derby (keep in mind that you are the only one that is watching it on campus)

Typical----Wait until the day before to churn out an okay rough draft, after all it is a rough draft.

Atypical----Spend all weekend, all Tuesday, and all Wednesday writing your rough draft (just writing it NOT polishing it.)

Typical----(This is me this time) Print out your paper one minute before you usually go to class.

Atypical----Print it out as soon as you finished it. Usually over the weekend since, you are such a nerd, that is when you did it.

Typical----Trying to find enough material to get to at least ten pages.

Atypical----Having so much information that you don't know what to leave out but having an expansive amount of pages.

Typical----Staying up late to finish your paper the day before it is due, usually two of three in the morning!

Atypical----Staying up late to finish your paper the day before it is due but to you this mean staying up until eleven!

Typical----Oversleeping since you stayed up so late the night before

Atypical----Waking up a half hour early, being totally awake and ready to start the day.

Typical----Not eating at regular hours because you are writing your paper.

Atypical----Not going to lunch but going out to dinner that night at TGI Friday's not having to pay being very hungry but not getting your food until 8:30-9:00 at night and totally starving for anything to eat while waiting.

Typical----Your English final paper is the same length as everyone else!

Atypical----Your English final paper ROUGH DRAFT is 22 PAGES long!!!! So that is what happened to me! Here is how my Wednesday went:

6:00 A.M. Wake can't being able to sleep being totally awake.

6:30 A.M. The time the alarm goes off but you are already awake.

7:00 A.M. Turn on computer, don't get on the Internet to check mail or read the news just type my paper and eat breakfast while doing it.

7:50 A.M. Leave for Seminar

9:00 A.M. I get back from Seminar turn on computer.

9:00-12:25 Typing paper

12:29 P.M. Printing 22 page paper, also having to put more paper in the printer

12:30 P.M. Leave for English that was pretty much my day, my being very nervous that I wasn't going to finish it on time. When I got back from English I needed to write a paper for Sociology and a review for Music but that was easy for me.
